Overview

It's so easy to be a bad boy when you no longer have to be good.
Sebastian Behr used to be a good boy. Hot shot, high flying call centre executive, he had a little piece of everything: respect, a huge paycheck, beautiful wife, high-end cars, and a big house. The only things left to get were a couple of nice kids and that happy coast to a comfortable retirement. Nothing was supposed to get in his way. Instead, his wife got a boyfriend, his job got downsized and he's taken in some new roommates. And now, with nothing else to do, it's all boobs, booze, and rejection letters. Sebastian knows what it takes to be good, but does he have what it really takes to be bad?
Ever wonder what a man thinks when he picks a woman out of a crowd and convinces her to sleep with him? Ever wonder what he thinks about himself when he does it? Sebastian Behr can tell you.
Riotously funny, refreshingly honest, and deceptively insightful, Ten Toes Down is a spirited personal odyssey that follows Sebastian Behr as he searches for his place in the world in the wake of an unexpected divorce, countless hangovers and endless available women. Venturing boldly into the heart of the contemporary male, Ten Toes Down wallows just long enough in the libidinous antics and bad boy manners of Sebastian’s post-divorce regression to deliver the reader a boisterous ride to the dirty side of town

Meet the Author

Nature sometimes conspires against mankind in her distribution of talents; such is the case with Asher Conrad. We are two, each with a distinct talent, and between us we make exactly one writer.

Brian is an American call center executive with an innate genius for story construction. Bettina, a Canadian, was gifted with the talent to understand what the hell Brian is talking about and to turn it all into a wonderful collection of words. Each is indispensible to the other.

Having met in the corporate world, we share neither domicile nor country, but using the tools of modern communication we overcome the barriers that distance once imposed.

We continue to write together, and are currently working on "Daddy Date Night", a novel that our mothers won't be embarrassed to read

First of all, I love the title of this book and the cover perfectly illustrates the meaning. It speaks to my witty side and immediately drew my attention and curiosity to find out what was inside.

I am pleased to say I found a very captivating read. From beginning to end I wanted to know what would happen next in the life of Sebastian Behr. Considering this was not written in a typical romance story fashion, but rather, in the first person, which I usually don't like, I wish to be clear this is meant to be a huge compliment to Asher Conrad as a writer, as well as a strong encouragement for readers to purchase this book and give it a go.

I found Sebastian's adventures, his travails and how he chose to navigate these circumstances interesting and often times humorous to picture (not that I would want to be found in those same situations, but...) What I appreciated most about this book is that it was written with such brutal honesty about men from a man's point of view. I seriously think every young woman should read this, because we women like to believe the men we want are good guys. And well, while most can be, some men are not, or at least, not always. Sebastian himself, was a faithful husband who worked hard to give his wife a comfortable life and was looking forward to filling his house with children. A family man. A good guy. And then for reasons out of his control things went awry after which he reverted back to his pre-marriage frat boy ways. Not a good guy. Inside these pages you will find a honest, blunt, explicit, and somewhat sad story of the turmoil unexpected losses can bring to a man's well-being and self-esteem and how he reacts both inwardly and outwardly. Best of all, this is a story of how he finds his way back to becoming the man he has always aspired to be and back on track to the life goals he had set for himself. It's an interesting journey. Well worth the read.

*I received a paperback copy of this book as a Goodreads contest winner.

Decent Read Good to Get a Man's Perspective

While I can't say I loved the book I did find it a nice change to have our main character, a male, expose his mind and heart on issues such as the significance gained from work, the validation of a significant other and the fear of failure. We rarely have such insight into a man's thought process.
I found the character development to be well done. The plot was a bit blah to me but I suspect it would hit many as interesting. The story flows well with no obvious hiccups. The ending may have been a bit rushed.
    I would havegiven this a 2.5 but a can only do a 2 or 3 will go with a 3.

"Ten Toes Down" is a book that enlightens the reader to a horrible process that occurs upon the ending of a marriage – but is so much more. It’s well conceived and executed and keeps the reader involved. The characters are developed nicely and are very believable. You will find yourself routing for Sebastian and his friends as they cope with the struggles of sometimes hard-luck life. This is a book that both entertains and provides a positive message for the reader. There is much to love here, don’t miss this one.

    Ok

Although it was interesting to read a story from a male perspective, it took too long for Sebastian to gain perspective and then was all concluded too quickly.

    Great read

This book is about a man's journey from having it all to very easily to having to re-evaluate his life. The journey he goes through is just so entertaining. I really enjoyed the book and story. It is a super easy read and so enjoyable.

    I liked this book.

I read the whole thing wondering if our main guy was going to pull himself out of his hole he was in. I related to his story on one level, so I felt his pain. This was a great free read.

Sebastian Behr is in the back of his pickup truck, suffering a hangover. He then starts recalling the events of the previous day. Just earlier he was enjoying his life, and all seemed well: a high paying job as an executive at a call center, good money, a beautiful wife, nice house – the works. And then all of a sudden he is plunged into a divorce, and he loses his job. Nothing could be worse for 40-year-old Sebastian. But things begin to get a little more disoriented and fun in one breath when he goes out to enjoy life with his bachelor friends – beer, late nights, and sex get him in and out of trouble from one adventure after another as he journeys to search again for himself.

When confusing times force a man to cope, it could mean a whirlwind ride as "Ten Toes Down" definitely proves. The book is a never-ending series of adventures. Getting into a man’s head, seeing what he thinks while handling the repercussions of divorce – Asher Conrad hits it right on the spot. It is a breath of fresh air to know that not all divorce stories are from the female perspective, and that it can be insightful without dropping the comedy, which makes it a great read. In addition, the characters have such depth to them, making them even more believable. Despite the nauseating circumstances and hangovers, readers can relate to, and root for Sebastian and his friends as they find out what it means to be good men.
