Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Cheryl Peterson
This book is one in a series called "Celebrate the States." It is filled with facts about Tennessee including geography, history, government, people, achievements, and landmarks. The information is up to date and is accompanied by beautiful color photographs. It includes a state survey, time line, state stars, and a calendar of celebrations. This book would be particularly useful for those in upper elementary grades who are writing state reports. The section about current famous people from Tennessee (such as Dolly Parton and Al Gore) may be particularly interesting to students.
Children's Literature - Greg M. Romaneck
In many ways Tennessee is three states rolled up into one. In the western portions of Tennessee a rolling plain holds rich agricultural land and periodic wetlands. The central parts of Tennessee feature hills and the state's primary population corridor. In the east, Tennessee is packed with rugged mountain country that contains some of the richest diversity of life in the nation. In Tennessee readers will receive a capable introduction to this varied part of the United States. This illustrated volume is part of a broader series titled "Celebrate the States." The author takes great pains to present a sound introduction to the history, land, and people of this southern state, and Tennessee contains a solid narrative that touches upon subjects such as the history of Native Americans in the region, geographic features, state history, and the present and future outlooks for this region. At the conclusion of the text readers are also provided a list of famous Tennesseans as well as places of interest in the state. This combination of strong narration, colorful illustration, and intellectual depth make Tennessee a book that will help youngsters to understand essential information about this area and its people.
