    After the War

Warriors - Cry to the Stars
    Book One: After the War

Hollyspark's green gaze followed Stormheart as he left on patrol, his muscular stormy gray form brushing out of camp after his companions. Hollyspark had noticed a strange worry in her brother's blue eyes, and she dimly wondered what was bothering him.
Following the patrol was Fatepaw, his gray tabby fur freshly groomed and his light ginger paws shining like fire. The look in his amber eyes told Hollyspark he was concentrated, probally on the task of collecting herbs. Later, he and Jayfeather would travel to the Moonpool.
Lilypatch padded up to the black shecat, her dark tabby fur glimmering and white patches shining like snow. Beside her was Dovestorm; the large gray tom shuffled his paws uncertainly as the two approached.
"Want to go hunting with us?" Lilypatch purred warmly, her amber eyes bright. Despite his shyness, Dovestorm, too, looked happy and friendly. Hollyspark smiled, and nodded in acceptance to the offer.
"Great!" Lilypatch meowed, her tail waving in the air. "Now we just need one more warrior."
Hollyspark glanced around the practically empty camp, her attention straying as Firekit and Redkit scurried out of the nursery. Her sharp gaze rested on Grasspelt, padding towards the nursery.
"Grasspelt!" the black shecat called, and the RiverClan tom's ear pricked. Turning, the light brown warrior turned and padded over.
"Want to go hunting with us?" Hollyspark asked, dissmissing Lilypatch's narrowing amber eyes.
"Sure," Grasspelt meowed brightly, his grass green eyes shining. "I'll bring something back for Blossomfall."
"It's great that there are lots of new kits in the Clan," Lilypatch mewed with a flick of her tail. "That means lots of new apprentices, and lots more warriors."
Grasspelt nodded as the patrol set out, and added, "I think Seedflower's kits will be apprenticed soon. Spiderstar hinted at it when he visited earlier."
Hollyspark felt a prickle of excitement crawl through her fur. Maybe she would be a mentor! Her mind raced over the kits, and she decided that she would probally like to mentor Patchkit. The ginger and brown shekit was more calm than her sister, Willowkit, and a quick learner.
The black shecat bounded into the forest, her green eyes shining. Lilypatch padded a few steps ahead, Dovestorm trailing after her. Grasspelt trotted beside Hollyspark, his light brown fur just barely brushing hers.
The gentle touch was enough to satisfy the small warrior. Maybe Grasspelt did like her after all. Maybe he didn't mind being with her. Maybe he wanted—
"Hollyspark!" Lilypatch's call broke her thoughts, and Hollyspark shook her head to clear it. She bounded away to catch up to the others, and skidded to a halt in the freshly fallen leaves.
Suddenly, Dovestorm dropped into a hunter's crouch. His gray fur brushing the leafy ground, and bright blue eyes intently fixed on his chosen prey, the pale tom slowly crept forward. Bushy tail sweeping the forest floor, the large warrior bunched up his muscles, springing from the undergrowth and pinning a paw down on a mouse. A quick bite to the neck, and the mouse was dead.
"Great catch!" Hollyspark purred as Dovestorm padded back, proudly carrying his catch. Lilypatch purred and flicked a tail-tip over the tom's ear.
After burrying Dovestorm's mouse, Lilypatch straightened up and led the patrol deeper into ThunderClan's territory.
