EXCERPT:

Laura ordered the grunts to head down the tunnel, following in the rear. It was difficult to see, but Laura could make out strange markings on the rock wall to her sides. These tunnels definitely didn't seem like natural formations...it was apparent some kind of life form constructed them.
“Daisie, what do you think? Detecting anything? Any life forms?”
A pause while Daisie gathered the data.
“Daisie? You there?”
“These tunnels indicate the presence of some kind of intelligence. I would advise caution.”
“Thanks, Daisie.”
Suddenly, there was commotion and muttering up ahead.
“What is it?” Laura asked, moving to the head of the formation.
“A door,” said one of the grunts. Laura looked up. It was more of a great rock slab than a door, but it was definitely a demarcation between the rooms. There was a strange marking on it, long strands of something carved into the dirt that Laura couldn't quite make out.
“Can we move it?” Laura asked.
“Do we want to?”
“We've come this far,” Laura said. “Everyone grab on. Let's see if we can get this thing to budge.”
The grunts huddled around the door, with Laura taking charge. Together, they strained and heaved, and slowly the massive door began to move, inch by inch. Soon they had moved the slab enough where they could pass. Ahead of them was another dark room.
Laura went inside, followed by the grunts. Suddenly, the walls began to light up. There were strange creatures attached to the rock, almost like barnacles, but they were glowing green with a strange phosphorescence.
“What is that?” asked one of the grunts.
“No idea,” Laura said, walking closer to study the creature. It was a small pulsing white thing, almost like a grub. They were strangely beautiful.
In the center of the room, now illuminated, was another pit, this one smaller than the one before.
“Sheesh,” said one of the grunts. “Another one of these things?”
“Daisie, what is this?” Laura asked.
“I'm detecting alien life forms in this quadrant,” Daisie replied. “I would advise you retreat from the area immediately. Motion sensors indicate it is quite large.”
“What?”
Suddenly, there was a tremendous roar from the pit. Two tentacles came shooting out at high speed, like pneumatic drills, forking and weaving through the air. One of them smashed into two grunts, flinging them against the wall, knocking them unconscious. The other closed around a grunt's midsection. He screamed, and the tentacle squeezed him and dragged him down into the darkness. Laura screamed.
Soon more tentacles came shooting out of the pit, too many to count. One by one, the grunts were disposed of, as the strange grubs on the wall glowed and flashed wildly. But the tentacles didn't touch Laura. She turned, frantic, trying to flee, but now finally one of the appendages wrapped around her waist as she shrieked, dragging her back into the room.
