Overview

The final thrilling installment of the NYT-bestselling Land of Elyon trilogy!

The Land of Elyon has begun to fail, poisoned by the evil that creeps across the Dark Hills and into Bridewell.
As she moves toward a thrilling conclusion, Alexa must find a way to overcome the Lonely Sea, rescue Yipes from the clutches of Victor Grindall, and unlock the mystery of the Tenth City.
But can she find the answers she needs in time to save The Land of Elyon?

Editorial Reviews

VOYA
In the final book of The Land of Elyon series, Alexa Daley and her mismatched band of allies-a hyperactive squirrel, a giant, one resurrected wise man, a frail woman, and assorted others-prepares for the final confrontation with the forces of Abbadon, a sort of Lucifer analog, led by the evil Victor Grindall. In order to prevail, Alexa must navigate the treacherous Lonely Sea, rescue her friend Yipes from Grindall, and find the mysterious Tenth City-all in a matter of days. Needless to say, there is neither a dull moment nor much of a break in the action as Alexa goes about her business. The setting is reasonably well realized, and the included map does much to make sense of the terrain through which Alexa and crew pass. Characterization is sketchy, presenting types rather than individuals, and the plotting is a bit pat. Everything resolves rather too easily, despite the death of one of the major characters. Some moderately surprising revelations and a happy ending make this book a satisfying read for those who have followed the first two books, but despite the introduction that gives background, the book does not stand alone. It is acceptable but hardly inspired fantasy for those who like their action nonstop and their plots squeaky clean.
School Library Journal
Gr 4-6-In this final volume in the series, the nasty overlord, Grindall, and his band of ogres have kidnapped Alexa's miniature friend, Yipes. Now Alexa is traveling over the seas with her motley crew of animal, giant, and human companions to save him. She makes some daring escapes, placates some wild creatures, and must defeat Grindall and his supernatural master, the fallen Abaddon. At the end, she and her companion get a glimpse of the heavenly Tenth City wherein lies the good creator, Elyon. The book draws more heavily on Christian imagery and religion than the previous titles and has some distinct similarities to C. S. Lewis's "Narnia" tales, especially at the end. Unlike the first two books, this one does not stand alone. Purchase where the series has proven popular.-Elizabeth Bird, New York Public Library Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

    more from this reviewer

Just the middle/end to a huge adventure...

The Tenth City is an interesting story. Alexa, the main character, with so much experience by now and realizing the truth of her identity, is set on another journey. This time really far from her family, Alexa goes to places she never thought she would visit in her life. Places are revealed she never thought existed, new pieces of information are collected to solve the plans of the evil they must defeat. More exploring, more drama, more life threatening situations, more emotions, book 3 is my complete favorite in the series.

    GREAT book

I just finished this book this morning and LOVED it. The two preivious books in the series were VERY good, too, but this was the best by far. The mystery the book leaves is fantasic. It makes you keep reading, by the time you get to the end you cant put it down! It leaves empty spots in places that will be filled later on in the story, which kept me reading. There are many surprising secrets discovered by the end that leave you jaw dropped! Over all FANTASIC book!!!!!

    The tEnTh CiTy

Hey, my name is Luis Solano and I am going to give you a book report of a book called, The Land of Elyon Book 3: The Tenth City, but before we start I have to tell you about the other 2 books that were written before this book. In the first book the main character is a girl named Alexa Daley, she lived in a place named Lathbury. But during every summer she went to a city called Bridewell with her father. All the citys are surrounded by walls to protect them from danger but she wanted to explore places beyond the walls and to the Dark Hills. So when Alexa gets out the walls from a secret tunnle she meets a tiny person 'and no its not a Ompa-loompa'named Yipes. He helps them 'oh, they also meet a tiny squirl' find a rock that lets her talk to animals and it is called a Jocasta.Long story short she ends up fighting evil forces and wins, she makes the walls go down and it is to be continued. In the second book she gets a note from Yipes from Warvold, who is an old guy that is extremly wise and died in the first book. Yipes was supposed to give it to her a year after his death. Alexa escapes again through the tunnle, but this time she goes past the Dark Hills and into places shes never been. She also finds another Jocasta but this one is special because it is the last one. She's ventering with old friends and new ones to a place called Castilia but is very evil and has 98 giants that have turned into evil ogers. There were once 100 giants and still are but the leader of the giants had betrayed Elyon and for that he was in prison for ever. When he was in the prison he had found some bats and he corrupted them then sent them to find the rest of the giants and infect them with evil. All of the giants were caught exept one and his name was Armon. So to make this long story short they find Grindall ,on theway she meets the only non-inffected giant Amon. She also finds Warvold'alive' and his wife in the Dark Tower where Grindall lives. Grindall also captures Yipes and now has ten ogers with him because the rest were killed and ran to Bridewell. So Alexa and her friends go after Grindall. They go down a rope into a boat on the Lonly Sea were a man is sailing it. The man capting the ship is non other then Thomases brother Roland Warvold and they are on the Warwhick Beacon traviling towards Bridewell. Now to finish this long trilogy The Tenth City. So they are riding on ship that people thought was lost forever is back. So to just put this to an end they save Yipes, kill Grindall his last ogers and Aboddon, found The Tenth City, and Alexa findes out that Warvold is her real father but he ends up dying in the end. They also find out that the Tenth City is where the people who have passed go. She ends up going on the Warwhick Beacon to sail with roland and Yipes for now. So this is my book report on The Tenth City.

    Great Series

All three of the books of The Land of Elyon were great. The third book kept you on your toes as to who was going to betray Alexa but never expected the outcome of the entire book. It was sad but they were all very enjoyable. However, I didn't like how the last couple of chapters read. It seemed as if the author was trying to hurry and finish the book instead of taking his time like he did through the first, second, and most of the third book. All three of these books had a lot of relative infomation of the bible. From Satan and his evil all the way to how God loves us and how Jesus laid his life for us for all. Very uplifting! I wonder how many other readers picked up on this!

    lovely ending!

i liked this book more than the second one but not as much as the first. it was sad but good and very exciting. i think my fav character is murphey. and i love the giant and i think it's annoying how much work he always ends up doing: climbing the cliffs and killing the ogres and stuff. but over all a great conclusion to this series! i love the land of elyon, and i don't mean the books, i mean the actual land!

    A Terrific End!!!

I love this series! It is one of the best trilogies I have ever read. I love this book, even though it was a little slow in some parts. As always (and this is usually true for all of the trilogies I read) the first one was my favorite. I thought that this book had some vividly explained scenes, and had a surprising ending that I wasn't expecting at all. I do have to say though, I had higher expectations for this book, but it is still fantastic, and I recommend this book to every one!!

    An Okay Ending...

Wow, what a series... I fell aboslutley in love with it at the start of the first book. The first book was my favorite, I love the mystery and the quiet, yet fun adventure. The second one wasn't as good, but I still liked it. I thought she jumped into the adventure quickly. But this book wasn't very exciting. I still think that it was good, just not as good as the others. The writing level seemed to drop to a younger audience. I don't know, this is still one of my favorite series, but this ending was just okay. But I do look forward to his other books!
