Overview

When a mysterious man besieges an office tower in Manhattan, he threatens to execute his hostages and unleash terror if his demands are not met. And he will only negotiate with Alexander Blackwell, a former legendary FBI Special Agent whose career had ended abruptly a few years before.

The FBI tracks Blackwell down on a tiny Caribbean island and he reluctantly agrees to negotiate with the suspect. As the clock ticks fast to the deadline, Blackwell soon realizes that the only way to save the hostages and prevent catastrophe is to figure out who this enigmatic suspect really is, and why he asked for him by name. But what he discovers is a chilling global conspiracy at the highest levels of government. It challenges everything he ever held sacred, and threatens to destroy his life all over again.

Terminal Rage is an explosive novel set in the post 9/11 world, where terrorism is no longer defined by who the terrorists are, but the sophistication and impunity by which they operate

The plot twists in Khalifa's thriller are dizzying, intricate, and entertaining, though the author's characters are often so broadly drawn they resemble genre caricatures. Alexander Blackwell, a former FBI agent haunted by his past, is pressed back into service when the enigmatic leader of a terrorist group takes control of a Manhattan skyscraper. But the hostage situation in New York is just the beginning, as Blackwell and the Feds must contend with the kidnapping of a powerful senator's daughter and demands for the release of two men convicted of bombing an Egyptian resort. The negotiations with the post-Mubarak generalship and the description of the Egyptian prison are among the best set pieces of the book, displaying a wry grasp of Egyptian mores and deft pacing. But Khalifa's prose too often falls prey to cliché and stock characterization, and the terrorists' getaway is wildly unlikely. Still, the clever plot twist that turns this sprawling novel from a hostage drama to a byzantine account of staggering theft and calculated revenge is appealing. Blackwell's pursuit of the villain and quest to understand his motives plods occasionally, though the loose ends are tied up with a more assured hand.

Thoroughly enjoyed Terminal Rage - great read! From the very beginning until the very end, there were wonderfully laced twists and turns. Nothing was expected and therefore kept my interest throughout the entire book. Things aren't always what they seem and assumptions should never be made. Brilliantly written and laced with multiple stories which were skillfully tied together in the end. Riveting. The main character, Seth Blackwell, a former FBI negotiator, is a complex, but so likeable character. Can't wait to read what his next adventure might entail. Would love to see this made into a movie too!

Best suspense thriller I've read this year. The characters are engaging, the plot twists are mind-blowing, and the non-stop action may keep you up reading all night!

I am not one to usually read fiction. My usual book of choice is a science/maths/business type of book, but I was recommended Terminal Rage by a friend and every night I tuck up in bed and keep reading way past my bed time. I keep telling myself 'just one more chapter' and before I know it it's 2am and I really should be getting to sleep. I am familiar with a few of the places mentioned in this book and the level of detail and nuances really shows that the author did his research and didn't just use stereotypical views to construct an environment. Even the characters act 'real', rather than being hollywood robots which always do the 'right thing' and everyone lives happily ever after. Very much recommend this book to anyone who is on the fence with fiction, or anyone that wants a thriller with a complex but understandable plot with many twists and turn. Looking forward to Mr Khalifa's next novel.

A cutting-edge suspense! As a sought-after freelance editor and author of WRITING A KILLER THRILLER, I specialize in editing thrillers and I also read bestselling thrillers critically all the time. This debut novel by up-and-coming author A.M. Khalifa is definitely up there with the best of them. This international thriller stands out for its unusual premise and originality of approach, coupled with complex, intriguing characters, a riveting plot, and a fast-paced style. This is no ordinary thriller, no ordinary hostage-taking story. There are no absolutes – no white hats and black hats, only variations of gray. The good guy has deep regrets and secrets he’s running from. The bad guy isn’t who you think he is at all. This cutting-edge suspense novel will surprise you and expand your horizons in many ways. This story takes you around the world and you’ll get an insider’s peek into other cultures and places you likely won’t ever experience otherwise. The exotic locales are vividly brought to life for readers, a testament to the writing skills and cosmopolitan experiences of the author, who has lived in many different countries on various continents. TERMINAL RAGE is an entertaining thrill ride, a real nail-biter with plenty of twists. I highly recommend it for thriller-lovers, and I can’t wait to read what Khalifa comes up with next. - Jodie Renner, thriller editor and author of guides for writing bestselling fiction: FIRE UP YOUR FICTION, CAPTIVATE YOUR READERS, and WRITING A KILLER THRILLER.

This book is atrociously written. The plot and actiins of the characters are frankly siljy and unbelievable, and the authir writes like english is not his first language,.or even his second. Sentence structure is particularly squurelly.
