Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Suzanne Javid
Meet a family of monkeys: a dad, a mom, a baby sister and, oh yes Pete, a boy with terrible, awful, horrible, very bad manners. He's even rude to his grandma. He loudly burps and he toots everywhere. He doesn't wash his hands, picks his nose, talks with his mouth full, and never uses polite words like "thank you", "please" or "you're welcome". Pete thinks his behavior is funny. It makes others look at him and he enjoys the extra attention. Finally, his family decides they have had enough and, at dinnertime, they begin acting just like Pete. Yes, they burp, toot, wipe their mouths with their sleeves, and talk with mouths full of dinner. Their actions work and Pete begins to realize that manners are important. A potty humor story focusing on a side of manners not usually discussed in children's books. Children through the early grades may respond with giggles and "yucky", "disgusting" and "gross". A book best read at home by families, although educators and librarians may mistakenly infer from the title that it is a book useful for classrooms. Part of the "Little Boost" series, this title is one of twelve designed to tackle early life lessons through stories. Other titles include Crabby Pants, The Little Bully, The Messy One, Too Shy for Show-and-Tell, You Get What You Get, Eleanore Won't Share, Hello Goodbye and a Very Little Lie, Lacey Walker Nonstop Talker, Lucille Gets Jealous, Maybe When I'm Bigger and Ruth's Pink Pajamas.
