Description: This is a new book on test-taking techniques for the healthcare student. The first two chapters give advice on preparing for tests. The next five chapters discuss various types of tests and how they are structured. The last two chapters contain sample test questions for practicing test-taking techniques learned from the first seven chapters.
Purpose: The authors intend to provide healthcare students with an understanding of the structure and design of specific test types and cognitive levels of questions. The authors have constructed a book to prepare students to study for specific testing instruments. The book has the potential to improve the test-taking ability of students identified as having problems with test-taking.
Audience: The authors designed this book for healthcare students preparing for exams in school and for the credentialing process. Any college student may better understand test structure after reading this book. The authors have had extensive experience in both healthcare and education, including test-taking techniques and test construction.
Features: There are very few illustrations in this book. Only two illustrations are included to support sample questions. The book lacks references that would be useful to show where the authors found their information and to guide readers to additional reading. The index and table of contents are complete. The appearance of the book is not important. The study questions provide a useful exercise for the reader.
Assessment: This is an important book for healthcare students identified as having problems with test-taking, The authors have prepared extensive explanations of test design. Bookstores should have this book available for students having problems with tests. The book is organized to give the healthcare student a logical approach to understanding the design and differences between various tests to prepare for a test.
