'Arresting and distinctive... The four stories in this collection are extremely impressive. Each is narrated by a young man who has come to a critical juncture in his life, though in no case does he clearly recognize it as such. The question in each story is whether he will learn from the encounter--whether he will accept new risks and commitments--or whether he will simply retreat into his old defenses... Completely convincing.' - Jonathan Yardley, The Miami Herald
