Kids and adults alike will laugh aloud as Finchler and O'Malley poke fun at the commotion surrounding standardized testing, a staple of every school's year.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Taking standardized tests starts in early elementary these days. Judy Finchler provides a humorous take on the sometimes nerve-wracking process in Testing Miss Malarkey. Kevin O'Malley's expressive illustrations capture the commotion as adults help students prepare. The gym teacher offers stress-reducing yoga, parents give pop quizzes about bedtime stories, and the school cafeteria dishes up "brain food." The lesson here—try not to take it all so seriously. 2001, Walker, $16.85 and $15.95. Ages 6 to 8. Reviewer:Mary Quattlebaum
School Library Journal
Gr 1-5-Testing time is here again, and everyone is tense in Judy Finchler's story (Walker, 2000). This humorous take on the current assessment craze will have both teachers and students howling with laughter. The male narrator provides a different voice for each character. Kevin O'Malley's expressive and humorous illustrations are scanned iconographically, with some minor animation added. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

    Humor Reveals Truth

An incredibly insightful look into the lunacy placed on standardized testing as the sole predictor of student performance. As a former elementary school principal and adjunct professor, this book is a must read for every pundit who resides in the ivory tower and has never set foot in an elementary classroom. Enjoy!

    Relieving Test Stress

I read this book at a faculty meeting right before our big assessment day. It made the teachers laugh out loud. This book is hilarious and refreshing. We were able to relate to the characters that's what made it so funny.

A must for every teacher to have and read aloud to her class.

I'm a teacher and this book is right on the mark concerning testing. It's a hilarious account of what students and teachers endure as the 'test' approaches. A belly laugh and a good poke in the ribs at how much emphasis we place on standardized testing.
