It was 1979, a young teenage boy named Tex and his older brother Mason live alone in a house somewhere. Tex's mother died a while back and his father is away at a rodeo and has been for a few years. Most mornings Tex would be outside riding on his horse before school. Most days Tex's friend Johnny comes to pick him up for school on his dirt bike and they ride together to school. Tex is always getting into trouble at school. One day at school Tex lights his school project on fire and gets sent to the office. Tex has an older brother named Mason, one day after school Tex came home to find that Mason sold his horse and Tex's horse. Tex was deeply upset by this and he threw a fit and started throwing things through the windows. This caused a fight between him and Mason. There father came home after being away from home for a few years. Tex was all excited to see his dad, while Mason could have cared less. Tex decides he is going to buy his horse back and when he approaches the new owners they refuse to sell him back to Tex. Tex falls in love with Johnny's sister. Tex gets into trouble for lighting fireworks in the teachers lounge and has to be taken home from school. Lem takes Tex to a clients house with him while he is trying to sell something and the customer flips out and shoots Tex.To find out what happens next read the book.

Some of the positive reasons I chose this book is because it is a very exciting book. I was very pleased with the content and how long it was. It was suspenseful and kept me turning the pages to see what happens next. I like the action and also the emotions in the book. There were a few negative things about the book. One thing I found was it could have had more characters and maybe a little more dramatic. The plot could have been better too.

The author wrote in first person all through the story because it talks from his perspective. All through the story it talks from Tex's perspective. The chapters had interesting topics which held my attention. The Author used mostly simple words, probably because it was geared toward young readers. The Author wrote such detail that you could almost picture yourself there.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about teenage conflicts. The three reasons I would recommend this book are as follows. It was a very exciting book. I think it was easy to relate to the characters. It had action, emotion and suspense.

Some similar novels are Taming The Star Runner, That Was Then,This Is Now, and The Rumblefish . I would recommend Things Not Seen. It is a very interesting book. Next I recommend The River. This book is a very exciting book because it is an awesome adventure, lastly I recommend The Outsiders, the book is so action packed I could not put it down.

Tex is about a boy named Tex who lives out in the country with his brother and father. His father leaves the house often for rodeos, and leaves little money for the boys. Pop finally comes back home, and Tex starts dating Johnny's sister, Jamie. The story adds more and more tragic events that happed to Tex with a surprising ending about his birth. I think the author intended to talk about how everyone has rough times through life, but we just have to move on. Overall, the book was surprising one of the best books I've ever read. I hope everyone reads this review, and learns about this book.
This book is taken place in Oklahoma. The family lives out in the country, and aren't very rich. Their mom died a few years ago, and their father goes away for his job for a while. Their dad doesn't leave them enough money to live. It's basically about them surviving without parents. If you like a sad story with a surprising ending, then you should read this book.
The style of this story is a romance/action book. It's hard to explain what it is because there are so many styles in it. The characters of the story are the Tex, Mason, Pop, Johnny, Jamie, and Lem. The setting takes place in Oklahoma, out in the country. The theme of the story is that everyone has sad moments in their live, but you have to move on and forget about it. At the end, Tex does find out why his older brother has been acting weird lately with Pop gone and everything. I can't tell because it would give the story away, so you need to read it. I think this is the best book I have read by S.E Hinton.
This book was very enjoyable; I hope you think that too. If you like tragic books with unexpected endings then this is the book for you. It is confusing to follow at first, but if you read it carefully you'll understand it. In conclusion, this book is good. Maybe not the best, but it was still good. I think many kids would like this because it was a mixture of many different styles in it.

Wonderful!!!!!!!

This book is one of the best books I have read because it's just so amazing in each way. There were alot of things going on in the book that were random, but it all makes sense in the end because Tex can really relate to those events that happen. I don't know how Hinton does it each time, but she always seems to surprise you. If you want a real heart breaker, try "That Was Then, This Is Now" or "The Outsiders". They're amazing.

One of S.E. Hinton's best!

Another terrific novel by S.E. Hinton about adolescence with a challenging socioeconomic status under the supervision of mostly poor role models. "Tex" reminds all of us that poor kids can live in rural environments, as well as urban. But the challenges are still the same, and in some ways even harder. But a strong spirit and a wonderful personality in the protagonist make this a terrific read.

Buy it, you won't regret spending the money!

This is one of my all time favorite books, and believe me I read dozens of books every year, and I never fail to re-read this one. In fact, my copy is nearly falling apart, not from rough treatment, just from reading it that many times. Tex's character is genious, there's something so simple about him, yet once in awhile he says something that makes you realize there really is much more to him than you first expect. It's a simple story, yet utterly captivating. There are many turns that you don't expect and it's one of S.E. Hinton's best books.

Beautiful book

this book is amazing.it touches you in the heart to see how tex(the main character)makes it in the book. you should reaaly buy it. i didn't regret buying this book. it was one of my 's.e. hinton' books.

Definately read!

S. E. Hinton wrote this book with great intensions. You can definitely tell that he likes to twist the book up to get you thinking. He tries to tell the readers that some people hold on to their pasts and some people don't. The book's very deep and requires a lot of thought. For me, it definitely made me realize that the saying "don't judge a book by its cover."Tex is about a boy named Texas who struggles with himself more than others it seems. His father is continually on the road at rodeos and so his brother, Mason, is providing for the both of them while trying to juggle being the best basketball player in school. He sells Tex and his horses. Tex's horse, Nigrito, was Texas's pride and joy and he loved that horse. When he found out Mace sold him he ran away after Mace went off on him and beat him up. This style of writing is more toward a teenage group. It focuses on the challenges that teens usually face. It is in a book that is more towards guys since Tex is telling the story. The main characters are Mace, Lem, Tex, Pop, Johnny, and Jamie. The plot of the story starts when Mason sells Tex's horse and Tex tries to retrieve it. I say this book has a great lesson for anyone to figure out. All teenagers should at least consider this book for reading. It is filled with moments of intensity and won't allow you to look up from the pages. Tex is someone that could be an inspiration to teens for going through so many traumatic events and love and discussions that are life changing. It's an amazing novel.

Truly Amazing Novel

In the book Tex by S.E Hinton, a young boy named Tex, who lives in Texas, goes threw an experience that is very difficult to deal with, growing up too fast. Tex has lived most of his life with his brother Mason by themselves. Tex's best friend Johnny, always hangs out with him and they do everything together. Tex also has another friend who he likes a lot, her name is Jamie, she is Johnny's sister. Tex has never had someone really rely on him, without his father he can't expect it to ever happen. A main conflict through out the novel is Tex against himself, Tex can't figure out what he can do at all times, he has always been getting into trouble. He must control his urge to do stuff and just settle down sometimes or he his going to get in more trouble then he has ever been in.

"TT" On one regular day, Tex goes to school, he comes home strait after to spend time with his horse Negrito. When he gets home, he finds out that his brother has sold his horse and Negrito to help pay for the house repair bill he got. Tex reacts very violent to the bad news, him and his brother get a fight over the horses. Later Tex leaves the house looking for the horses, while he is looking for them, Tex's friends Johnny and Jamie bump into him and recognize the bruises from the fight. His brother pulls up and tells him to get into the car. The next day Bob Collins takes Johnny and Tex to the fair, after he takes them to a party, the boys get drunk for the first time. After a fight with Johnny, Tex goes to look for him at the gravel pits. After Johnny fails to jump the creek with his motorcycle, Tex manages to make it. Mason is very disappointed to hear about Tex's stunt. Tex later discovers that the family's friend Lem is dealing drugs to take care of his family. More exciting adventures come towards this family, and also heart felt moments. I really liked this book because it relates to modern society, that most tenagers are growing up to fast. Most people could relate to this book. What I disliked was that the story takes place in a town, it would be more exciting if it was placed in a modern city environment. Other wise this book is one of the best I have ever read.

Great Book

I loved this book so much! To be honest, I think I like this book more than the Outsiders! If you start reading Tex you won't be able to put it down it's one of the best books ever! Everyone should read it!

The Best Ever

This book is about a young, easygoing teenager named Tex. He usually gets in trouble, but he always likes a good challenge. Tex loves many things, especially his horse, Negrito, and his best friend, Johnny. But life with Mason, his big brother, isn¿t going well ever since Pop left five months ago. Soon, Tex falls in love with Johnny¿s sister, Jamie, and they start to date. But when Pop returns, Tex soon finds out the truth about his mother. Does he take the truth personally?
I would recommend this book because it is exciting and realistic. The characters are just like any other person you would know because they have problems similar to young adults. Some parts of the book are confusing, but if you read it a couple of times carefully, it will be easy to understand. So far, this is one of my most favorite books because once I started to read it, I couldn¿t take my eyes away from it.

one good book

Tex is one of the best books I read this school year. I liked this book because I could relate to a lot of the book.Also it had a lot of suspenceful parts. Some parts left me hanging on eage. I realy enjoyed this book.

AMAZING!!

This book is the best book I have read in a long time! I was required to read this for school and I wouldn't of picked any other book! The next book I'm reading is by the same author, The Outsiders....I was told that The Outsiders was a finaminal book. I can't wait to read that one either!!

This Book Was Terrible

This book was incredibly disappointing. I love the Outsiders, and I knew nothing could ever live up to that book, and I also had not heard very good reviews for this book either, but I thought that S.E. Hinton wouldn't release something this bad into the public. I do not like this book for many reasons. First, the characters were annoying. I couln't connect with any of them or feel their pain. Yes, there was a lot of pain, but if you don't like the characters, it's just hollow. Next, the plot was outrageous. Wait, there was no plot. There was just random stuff happening all over the place. Third, this book never grabbed your attention, and there was nothing that pulled you in throughout the whole book, so you are just dragged throughout the duration of the ride. The only reason I finished this book was because I was motivated to read all of S.E. Hinton's books to compensate for the lack of a sequel for the Outsiders. RECOMMENDATION - If you like horses, and will do anything to compensate for an Outsiders obsession, read this book. If not, stay away from this book.

Loved it!!

I found out this book from S.E. Hinton's other book The Outsiders before that book even started. I looked it up on barnsandnoble.com, read the review and wanted it then. This book is just as good as The Outsiders and I highly recomend it!!!

I Absolutly LOVED it!!!!!

If I hadn't read The Outsiders this would be my favorite book of all time. It's exciting, interesting, and there's a tiny bit of a romance!! I fell in love with all the charectors (even Cole Collins, the mean rich guy). There is a well made movie version of this (staring Matt Dillon and Emilio Esteves, who were both in The Outsiders as Dally and Two-Bit) but I would definatly read the book first, 'cause if you didn't you would really be missing out on something great!

I had to read 'Tex' for my english class. I wasn't there the day my group picked the book. As i came back to school i got my copy of the book and i didn't think i was going to like it. But as i read on, i found 'Tex' the be a very well put together. Tex short for Texas he gose through all these adventurous events throughout the story. He is a very relaxed and carefree guy but his carelessness leads to a lot of trouble. Tex loves everyone especially his horse Negrito who is sold for money. Mason his older brother likes school and basketball. He wants to get out of the house away from Tex as soon as possible, but he can¿t because Pop hasn¿t come home for five months. Tex and Mason are running out of money and are really having trouble with the house bills. Mason is doing the best he can with money and taking care of Tex, but Tex is always getting into trouble at school and everywhere else. It seems like Pop forgot, or doesn¿t care about them. Mason is losing hope for Pop, but Tex knows he¿ll comeback.

OMG this book is amazing, i luv it, my english class is reading it for a novel and we have to read it chapter by chapter so you cant read ahead and its killing me, because i want to read the whole thing right now, but i cant, right now were on the 9th chapter well were done it and we cant read ahead, but i did and omg i want to read the whole thing at this second but i cant so im freaking out and after were done the book, we get to watch the movie, and i cant wait for that too, and by the way im typeing this super fast so there are no periods, but anyways this book is amazing and i cant wait to see what happens, and i cant wait to see the movie, well thats about all i can think of so ill be going now to do my home work on the chapter im done reading so bye!!!!!

The symbol that I like and comes out a lot is Tex¿s friends. Tex is always with his friends having fun especially with his two best friends Negrito and Johnny. Tex loves to ride and play with Negrito, he even gets hit and cries for his horse when he is sold and goes to look as far as he can for him. Johnny and Tex always ride together and do a whole bunch of reckless things together. Tex even tries to get Johnny back when they¿re in a fight for a dumb reason. What I dislike about this book is how Negrito is sold and Tex gets sad. I also dislike how Pop takes long to come back and doesn¿t even care for Tex. I recommend this book to everyone because it¿s interesting, eventful, and exciting and sad at the same time. Tex grabs your attention and relates to a lot of events in the real world. For example it relates to true life because you could have problems with money, friends, and family members just like Tex and Mason.

a riviting tale of two brothers who rly dont have much but make it. they go though a lot during this book. with there father gone they have to have a strong bond and they do tex loves his horse negrito and when mace sells it he is horrified but they make it. they make it though so much i couldnt even begin to think how hard it would be to let go of something you held so dear
