Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Mail-order bride Amelia Carson expects her future husband, Dallas Leigh, to meet her when she gets off the train in Fort Worth. However, a broken leg prevents him from traveling, so the job of escorting her falls to his brother, Houston. Women are scarce, but Houston, who had lost an eye and was badly scarred during the Civil War, should pose no romantic threat. Soon Houston realizes that he can't watch his brother marry the woman he has come to love. The author writes directly and movingly about the shattering effect the Civil War has on three of its survivors. With its superb levels of characterization and poignantly satisfying plot, this is a book readers will treasure. Heath (Always To Remember, Jove, 1996, a 1997 Rita nominee for Short Historical) lives in Plano, Texas. (JC)

Meet the Author

Lorraine Heath wrote her first story at seven, and it involved a fisherman who fell in love with a mermaid. She has since moved on to writing about sexy cowboys and dashing English lords (and sometimes, cleverly, in the same book!). Publishers Weekly says she is a "master of her craft." She is, indeed, and along with being a New York Times and USA Today bestseller, she has won the RITA® Award, Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award, and a Career Achievement Award.

This is my first time feeling the need to praise a book so much and sharing why i love it so that others might hopefully read it and fall in love too. This book is a reread for me and just like the first time i read it i fell in love with Amelia and Houston. Its the perfect love story about 2 people who dont want to love but fall in love because they are soulmates. They complete one another and make eachother better. Thats true love to me. Houston was the perfect man with more emotional scars than physical but with Amelia his transformation was beautiful. I had tears in my eyes numerous times and that has NEVER happened before!! I love houston and amelias love. Best book ever! Love love love!!! Please read it and im sure you will love it too!!

Best in the trilogy---and they're all good....................................................................... Dallas is injured and cannot go pick up his mail order bride. So he send Houston his badly scarred and emotionally bankrupt brother to go pick up Amelia. After 4 weeks on the trail together Amelia is saying "what scars?" and it turns out Houston has a little more emotion left in his account. But whats a brother to do? After all this is his brothers intended. !Highly recommended

This was the first book I read from Lorraine Heath and loved it. I could not put it down. It was very romantic and sweet. Houston is very special and Amelia can see him beyond his scars, she can see him as he truly is.

This was truly a book I couldn't put down. About halfway through I downloaded books 2 and 3 of the series about the Leigh brothers and only wished there had been a couple other brothers for Lorraine Heath to write about.

I loved the way amelia and houston fell in love but i didnt like the way amelia liked the way dallas kissed her and touched her. She should have been put out by it because she was in love with his brother. I wasnt crazy about this series because of that kind of thing. Heaths series on the brooding easton brothers was way better. I liked it so much that i gave the last book 5 stars. Phyl p

Always a sucker for the underdog as Houston was in this story. But he found Amelia & true love. Can't wait to read Dallas' story.
