As a family hunkers down in their sod shanty, Santy Claus arrives out of the sky in the midst of a fierce winter storm in a wagon pulled by eight scroungy longhorns. With names such as Leadfoot, Waleye, Flopear, Scarface, and Gimp, they give old Rudolph a run for his money.

After crash-landing Santa's wagon, the longhorns proceed to stomp through the vegetable garden and dismantle the clothesline before climbing all over the roof of the shanty. Such mischief is only a sign of things to come in this fun, Texan Christmas adventure. With a Santy so endearing he could charm the spines off a cactus, Texas Night Before Christmas will touch the hearts of children and adults of all ages.

James Rice (1934-2004), in his long, distinguished career as an author and illustrator, produced more than sixty children's books, among them several additions to The Night Before Christmas Series. Cajun Night Before Christmasï , Rice's first book, has been nationally recognized as a classic in its genre. Rice taught art and music at both high school and college levels and loved teaching children the joys of writing and illustrating. With more than 2.5 million copies of his books in print, Rice ranks among the nation's best-selling creators of children's books, having received awards from Printer Industries of America and the Children's Book Council.

With a team of recalcitrant longhorns pulling his sleigh, "Santy" pays a visit to a family on the Texas prairie, bringing gifts and Christmas cheer.

Love this story it is a family tradition we look forward to ever

Love this story it is a family tradition we look forward to every year. Yes we are native Texans however we are not so easily swayed, it seems we were so captivated from the beginning with the pictures and terminology we couldn't put it down. The Cajun one is also great. Texas is the best I believe Thank you Mr. Rice for sharing your talent with the world and giving us something special and a little off the beaten path to enjoy over the holidays.
