Overview

Their love never died, but her secrets could break his trust beyond repair.

Texas Montgomery Mavericks, Book 1

After six years and too much self-recrimination, rancher Mitch Landry is ready to admit he was wrong. He'd loved Olivia Montgomery but commitment wasn't high on his list back then. That was his first mistake. He's just divorced his second, and he's set to do whatever it takes to convince Olivia to give him another try.

Through hard work, determination and more than a few tears, Olivia survived the break-up with Mitch. She's rebuilt her life around her business and the son she loves more than life itself. She's not proud of the mistakes she's made-particularly the secrets she's kept-but when life hands you manure, you use it to make something better of yourself...lest you get stuck in it.

At a hot, muggy Dallas wedding, they reconnect. Olivia's first instinct is to play it cool, but after one devastating kiss things flare real out of control, real fast. Maybe a quick roll in the hay will get him out of her system once and for all. Funny thing about hay though, once it's tangled in your hair, getting it out risks revealing things that were never meant to see the light of day.

Warning: Contains hot sex, a vindictive ex-wife, and hot chocolate chip cookies.

Wow I loved this book! I couldn't put it down and practically read it in one sitting. It was a roller coaster of different emotions. I laughed and cried so make sure you have tissues at hand. I liked that the emotional reactions were true to real life. When Mitch found out about Olivia's secret Mitch was mad and devastated and Ms. D' Alba wrote with true emotions and actions. I think to many times authors play down such reactions. Olivia and Mitch are great characters and Adam will steal your heart. There is a cast of secondary characters that just help to make this book fabulous. I can't wait to read more.

Very well written romance for a first time author. Enjoed the byplay between Mitch and Olivia and how it allows the reader to understand all of the characters, including Adam. Gave just enough of everything without being too much of one thing. I laughed. I got angry. I cried. Most of all I recommend this book.

I loved the struggles that Olivia and Mitch had to go through to accept their past mistakes and found their love was still there.  There was no long drawn out denial of their part in the break up, separation, and secrets.  The complete family support all round was great to see as well.  I enjoyed this story very much and loved how the story was told by Cynthia D'Alba.

Reviewed by Natasha Jackson for Readers' Favorite Things between Mitch and Olivia are complicated, in fact have always been complicated. In Cynthia D’Alba’s Texas Two Step we learn that Mitch and Olivia used to date and were madly in love, until Mitch’s brother James died tragically, leaving behind his pregnant socialite wife. So Mitch does what any good family man would do; he marries her, much to the chagrin to his newly ex-girlfriend Olivia, who has also recently learned she is carrying Mitch’s child. Fast forward six years and Olivia and Mitch are reunited for a wedding and things get a little hot. So D’Alba takes readers on a wild journey of love rediscovered, trust lost and earned, and family reconnected. While Texas Two Step may not be a completely unique western love story it is filled with characters that are easy to love and root for, along with the must-have hated villain, in this case villainess Joanna. Mitch and Olivia have made mistakes, and we see them go through the stages of grief for what they lost—-Mitch and years with his child and Olivia with the love she could have had—-and finally come to terms with what is right instead of who is right. Cynthia D’Alba created a community of fun characters like the spunky Magda, the too adorable Adam, quiet but strong Hobbs and we can’t forget Sylvia Landry, the wise mother to all.  Texas Two Step is well-written with strong characters able to stand out in a rather formulaic story. D’Alba does a fantastic bringing the hopes and fears, strengths and weaknesses of Mitch and Olivia to the surface without hitting the reader over the head with them. You understand their reluctance, but you secretly hope they do what you want them to. A great story is about more than the main characters; and the secondary characters in this story feel like family instead of characters on a page. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read filled with drama, romance, sensuality and a splash of humor.

Such a refreshing tale of a reality romance. It has parts that make you laugh and parts that make you want to cry. It will really touch your heart. An amazing love story!!!!

My Review: I really enjoyed this book. The basic story line was not anything new, but I thought Cynthia D'Alba wrote it really well. I loved Olivia's character. She has every reason to be bitter and harsh with Mitch, but every time those feelings rise up, she steps back to take a look at things from his point of view. I loved that about her and that aspect of her personality really made this book for me. This book is about two people who were desperately in love, but then they got caught up in circumstances beyond their control and were swept up in actions and events which turned out to be mistakes. Now they are having to learn and recover from those mistakes (both of them.) One of the things that made this book so good was the huge supporting cast of characters. It seems like the rest of this series is going to work around Olivia's brothers, but I hope we get to see some more of some of the other characters from this book. *Drake- Olivia's ex-husband who is more like a brother, but he stepped up to help when she found out she was pregnant and so devastated by Mitch's break-up and subsequent marriage that she didn't know how to function. *Magda- Mitch's 22 yo, tattooed housekeeper...LOVED her and REALLY hoping that we get to see more of her and Drake...there was definitely a certain chemistry between the two of them... and Magda's story is really intriguing and would make for a great romance. *crossing my fingers* *Mitch's parents- they knew Olivia's secret and kept it for her against their will, but they still offered a great support system for Olivia. I loved that about them. Those were the characters who really made an impact on the story for me. In the periphery were Olivia's brothers although we didn't see a whole lot of them in this book. It sounds like they all have very unique stories. Overall this was a fun afternoon's read and I am so glad that I listened to the devil on my shoulder urging me to push that one-push-buy button and made this impulse buy.

If you love cowboy romances, then you need to add "Texas Two Step" to your reading list. This is a steamy second chance romance with a hot cowboy! Also, it is a story where two people realize that if they can't learn forgiveness for each they may miss out on true happiness. "Texas Two Step" by Cynthia D'Alba is book one in the "Texas Montgomery Mavericks" series. This is rancher Mitch Landry and Olivia Montgomery's story. Mitch and Olivia were an item until Mitch broke it off about six years ago. Both Mitch and Olivia had married someone else and now they are both divorced. Olivia and Mitch's paths cross during their friend's wedding. They both realize that they still have a strong physical connection to each other that they are having a hard time ignoring. Will Olivia be able to forgive Mitch for hurting her? Olivia has secrets that she has kept from him. Will Mitch be able to forgive Olivia? I really loved the author's writing style. She kept my attention from beginning to end. I couldn't put the book down. Magda, Mitch's housekeeper, was a favorite character of mine. Hopefully, we will get to read her story. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and other books by Cynthia D'Alba. This is one is a winner! FYI, includes mature content.

A Romantic Western Recommended Read! This is a well-written and great Romantic Western. The story draws you in and you will want to keep reading because you don’t want to miss what’s going to happen next with Mitch and Olivia. This book has some steamy romance. This is a story about Mitch and Olivia: having love, losing love, family ties, life’s ups and downs, a vindictive person, sharing Adam and trying to find their way back together. I would definitely recommend this book. You won’t want to put it down once you start it.

So this book has a lot of great dialogue and interaction between the two main characters. That's the positive part of my review. However, and this is a big however, the plot is completely unbelievable. He leaves her after living together throughout college because he's not ready for marriage. Six months later marries his recently deceased brother's fiance....because she's pregnant. Really?? Meanwhile, the Heroine finds out she's pregnant but doesn't tell him because he got married so soon after their breakup. 6 years later....Child is 5 and almost everyone in both of their families has known about this child from the beginning except for the father... i.e. the Hero. Even the Hero's parents know of the child and have a relationship with the child!  This plot is just too unbelievable and therefore is completely distracting. I think this author is a great writer, but I think she could have created a more believable storyline for the reader.

Yum Yum... This is one of my favorite cowboy books. This is book 1 in the series, I recommend reading them in order just to get the background info for the characters. This is a wonderful story of lost love and second chances. I tried to read it in one setting but it was to good. I recommend this story for lovers of real cowboys and the women who love them. Each story in the series is stand alone but they take you into a family and make you want to move in and stay. Happy reading. :)

Mitch is not romantic material. Olivia can't just ask a question? Such as why is Mitch sleeping with me but planning to marry someone else and get custody of Adam? Does anyine in the REAL world think custody hearings wouldn't hear that nasty little piece of information about the father? And Mitch waiting THREE months before straightening out the misunderstanding??
