There's a cruel sense of irony in the fact that Duran Duran followed up the best album of their career with this, their worst effort. Every artist seems to need to pay tribute to their influences, of this i have no problem. But when it's overproduced hyped-up rubbish such as Thankyou you can't help but wish DD had come up with something else. The track Lay Lady Lay sounds like a carbon copy of their hit Come Undone and just the thought of Simon Le Bon doing 911 Is A Joke must have sent Public Enemy fans running for the hills. After such a great comeback this is a massive disappointment. Avoid at all costs and jump to Medazzaland instead, a far worthier follow-up.
this is a real well done covers album. theres from funk to rock music on it. lebons voice is really different on this albun and there are really good riffs!! i liked most WHITE LINES and
Watching The Detectives is eerily sexy, arguably more so than Costello's. While the entire album is very (obviously) DD, for lack of a better cliche, their versions provide a strange twist to the originals. Regardless of Thank You's arrival time, I do think it is appropriate for a once-in-a-while nastalgic day.
I have been a Duran Duran fan from the start, and I enjoyed this CD so much! They do a perfect job covering these songs!
