Overview

You know, being friends with two cute boys does have its benefits.

There's Danny. Danny is a golden boy in every way. He has dreamy blue eyes and blonde hair that always looks perfect, even when it's windblown or been stuck under a football helmet. He's the boy every girl crushes on. The boy I get into trouble with, the boy I fight with, the hot quarterback no girl can resist, not even me. Being with Danny is like being on an adventure. He has a bright, contagious smile and abs to die for. He's pretty much irresistible.

Equally crush worthy is Phillip. Adorable, sweet Phillip, who I have known since birth. Phillip has dark hair, a perfect smile, brown eyes, and the sexiest voice I have ever heard. He's the boy I talk to every night before I go to sleep. The boy who rescues me, the boy who can read my mind, the boy who is always there for me, the boy who tries to keep me out of trouble, the boy who irritatingly keeps getting hotter, and whose strong arms always seem to find their way around me. And when he gives me that grin, I can never say no.

One boy will give me my very first kiss.
One boy will teach me to make out.
One boy will take me to prom.
And finally, one boy will ask me to marry him.
They will both be my best friends.
But only one of them will be the boy I fall in love with.
Only one of them is That Boy.

Editorial Reviews

Goodreads - Jennifer Howell
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved this book. Jillian Dodd has developed three fictional characters that grabbed onto my heart and wouldn’t let go long after I turned the last page of That Boy. I laughed, got exasperated, cried uncontrollably, and connected with the characters because Jillian refuses to hold back in her writing. She lets you into their hearts, and makes you know them inside and out. Even the side characters. I never wanted the book to end.
Goodreads - Reading, Eating & Dreaming .
This is a wonderful story that will make you feel every emotion. Overall, That Boy is a happy story that will have you cracking up and squealing in delight, but it also has some extremely touching and emotional moments that will break your heart. There were a few scenes that had me bawling like a baby. I think the reason this story affected me so much was because it was so realistic.

I gave That Boy by Jillian Dodd 4 STARS (4.5 STARS). I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS NOVEL!
Goodreads - Amber R.
Jillian has such a clever way with words. I literally laughed and cried throughout this book. There are some things that are very unexpected and heartbreaking that happen.

You just feel so connected to all the characters in Jadyn's life, including her parents, friends, and friends parents. I couldn't help but get wrapped up in her life.

The triangle between Jadyn, Danny, and Phillip is great. They're all such great friends and have such a good connection with each other.
Goodreads - Julie B
I loved That Boy! I could relate myself to Jay and understand her personality. I LOVED IT! It is hard not to picture Danny, the football star, completely worth crushing over. Then there is Phillip, the boy next door that grew up totally hot and also crush worthy. Jay finds herself going to one of them for help on how to kiss. Umm hello, hot young boy, being asked to kiss (and make out with!) the girl next door. Who will she fall for?

This was so freaking good! Loved it. -Abby Glines, Author of The Vincent Boys

There's something about this book that makes me feel as if I was

There's something about this book that makes me feel as if I was getting to know a person. As soon as I closed that final page, and put the book down my desk, it felt like putting a phone down after talking to my best friend for hours on end. It was strange really, because it had been a long time since I felt mawkish at reading books. The last time I felt like I had a stupor sheathing me was after Salinger's Catcher in the Rye.

That Boy had been a wild journey. Wild, in a sense that if the scene portrays humor, it truly is humorous. If serious, it is dead serious, and if it is tragic, it makes the reader feel the tragedy from the book's pores.

    Amazing,right?

Although I am not a big fan of fast-paced books that evolves quickly from one period to another, I sill appreciated JJ and how she managed to mature(a bit) from her very first posts to the very last.

May I add, that she is insanely lucky to have two boy best friends who was there with her from the start? Very few people get that luxury. While Phillip might be the friend who oozes self-control and levelheadedness, Danny was the boy who counters that with his hype energy and good football skills.

I have to praise Jillian Dodd on this one because there is not one dull page in this book. Either had me smiling or laughing. Other times, it made me feel like pulling my hair out at some situations where JJ's thinking borders on the irrational side. If the start was a fun read, the part nearing the end was 5 times as exciting. (surprise!)

I think the only thing that I didn't like much maybe, was, once again, the progress of the book and how quick everything was to happen. Like how one moment, she was in this party, then next, her parents are dead. And may I say that when her parents died, I was just a tad bit frustrated at JJ's behavior? She was being immature at some parts, but who can really blame her. She's a teenager.

All those thoughts aside, I better pack it in a nutshell then: This was the best chick-lit I've ever read this year. I daresay, Sarah Dessen, chick-lit queen extraordinaire, might have competition.

Great Job, Jillian! I can't wait to read That Boy's sequel!

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS EVERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This story will have u laughing your butt off, crying your eyes out, and make you wish u had more guy friends!!! It is inspiring, brave, and beautiful. This is a story about a girl who has two guy friends who she knows will always be there for her, but in two very different ways. One is a supportive rock that knows just what to do, say and treat Jayden at the right times, and has literally known her since birth. The other is a charming, adventurous football- playing player who is constantly chalenging Jayden with eveything. Both guys really care about her and stand by her when a terrible accident turns her life around.
The reason this story is so great is that it goes through all of Jayden's milestones, starting at ten years old. It goes through her middle school, high school, and college years. This story wil really tug at your heart. You'll laugh, cry, and swoon over all the guy action in this story.
    Rated PG-13

    Amazing!

I just finished this book today and I have nothing but good things to say. What else could there be to say about a book that had me laughing, in tears two different times and smiling all in one day. I spent my whole drive home from work today going through what I was going to write in my review. But I found that this book has left me speechless.

That Boy is about three friends JJ (Jadyn), Phillip and Danny. Phillip and JJ have been friends for years. Then Danny moves in to the neighborhood and becomes the third musketeer in their little group. The three of them are inseparable and the book takes us through their high school days and on to college. Without spoiling too much this book does throw a big curve ball definitely something I did not see coming and which left me in tears and leaves JJ needing the boys more than she ever has before. While this book does have it's share of moments that will make you tear it up it has many more laugh out loud moments. I love the relationship between the three friends but more than that I love the relationship between JJ and Phillip. He really is her knight in shining armor.

My favorite part of any story is the love element and this story does have that and then some. I did find myself wanting to hit JJ over the head a few times though she is so stubborn sometimes! I do have to say that the love story part of this book is written so well. It made me feel all tingly. It isn't your typical love story between a girl with two best friends who are guys that end up fighting each other over her. I have to say I loved that about this story. Which boy next door will JJ pick? Read to find out. This is definitely a journey that you will want to go on and it is exactly that a journey.

This book really got to me and left me feeling so many different emotions. Where do I get a Phillip of my own?!? It is fitting that this is my last review of 2012 as it is one of my favorite books that I have read this year. In fact it might actually be my favorite book that I have read this year. Happy reading! I am off to read That Wedding now the next book in this series.

Here are a few passages I highlighted on my nook while reading.

Phillip lets me in. Phillip and Danny are both standing there in just their swim trunks. Damn. It's like walking into an Abercrombie ad. Did I mention I love my life right now?...

"I've Been here for you all along. I've listened to you cry about other guys, I rescue you, take care of you when you're sick, hug you when you're sad, tell you you're beautiful when you look terrible." He looks me straight in the eyes and is dead serious when he says "Princess, I've always been the one."

"He reminded me of when we were ten, and he gave me my first kiss. We were on the swings out behind school, and right after he kissed me, he got up and ran away. The all of a sudden, he stopped turned around and yelled back, Will you marry me someday? And I yelled back to him Yes!"

This was one of the most unique books I have ever read. The concept was so fresh and original. The storyline made sense and had such a great twist to it.

That Boy starts out from the beginning, written from a child's point of view. Each chapter progresses as the main character, Jadyn (JJ) Reynolds ages. The whole book spans from childhood to modern day college graduation.

Everyone loves a good love triangle and this one was no exception. It was beautifully weaved and my interested just kept snowballing. The further I read, the harder it was to put down. I found myself at 3 A.M. desperate to finish so I could find out what happened.

Imagine my surprise to find out that not only is this a great coming of age romance story, there is also a sequel. I am consequently dying to read That Wedding by Jillian Dodd. Will be starting that one tonight:)

This book is really for anyone who loves a great heartfelt romance story. I give this book five stars hands down.

    Not that great

It was ok there were a lot of cute moments, but I didn't feel like the guy she ended up with had that much chemestry with her. Not compared to the other one.. I loved it until she ended up with the wrong guy. He may have done everything for her but honestly felt like she was just pushed in that direction not like she actually wanted to. Oh and what happened with her parents it didn't feel believable.. so although I did like quite a few parts of this story, I wouldn't read again. I'm not really looking forward to the sequal either. The writing was good though and loved the girls personality. So when this author comes out with another there's a good chance I will be reading that as well. Unless this particular series come up with the 4th being the devorce and giving the two people that actually have chemistry together a chance then, I'm out on this one. I'm sorry but if you want your charactors to fall in love you should really write them that way give them playful moments, give them chemestry!
