I read this book in one day. I couldnt put this book down. That First Kiss by J.C. Valentine had everything I look for in a great romance novel. It had unbelievably sexy men, two to be exact, and loads of sexual tension! Piper Donovan and Tate Larson certainly had me hooked on this story right from their first encounter.

That First Kiss starts off rather strong. I found Piper and her friends amusing maybe not completely realistic in their interactions but amusing none the less. This book focuses on a one night stand in a club’s bathroom that leads to a forced day to day interaction because of a job. Yep the one night stand ends up being Piper's boss. Piper is one of those characters that while funny, was a bit insecure and flip flopped in her emotions quite a bit. I am thinking she might need meds to help her make up her mind. However Tate is to blame for most of this but still there were moments when I wished I was one of her friends so I could simply shake her.  Tate is an ass. Yep I said it, he is all over the place, a massive prick to Piper one second and then trying to get in her pants the next. This book had some good moments but the plot felt inconsistent and the characters did as well. Now I call Tate an ass but he has sweet moments and at one point I was rooting him one at which point Piper turned cold after she got her rocks off.  The sex in this book is well written, and if the characters were more relatable and little less all over the place this story would be a solid 4. I will say that the ending was sweet and left a smile on my face.

Piper Donovan has left her cheating ex boyfriend found a new apartment and a new job. An assistant to an author. She goes out to celebrate with her friends, and after a few drinks she sees a hot guy. When she's dancing with her friends the mystery guy comes up behind her and together they seductively start dancing, then he grabs her by the hand and takes her off to the ladies bathrooms, while there is a queue and locks the door leaving everyone standing outside. Tate Lawson, is an author, and no one can work for him, they don't last longer than a month. He can't get his one night stand out of his head. Imagine both there surprises when Piper is his new assistant. When she walks into the coffee shop. He fires her on the spot. Her real boss Felix tells her Tate can't fire her, only he can. So she goes back out there and shows him what she's made of. The attraction is their between them and both fight it. but how long can they go on fighting it. I loved this. I Loved the characters. I loved Pipers character. I loved the tasting session in Vegas with Tom, especially the kitchen scene, and Tate turning up at just the right moments, which then lead to the elevator scene! JC Valentine is the author to watch out for. Her books are hot, they grab you in and don't let go till your ready. This had everything you want in a book, Girls nights out, hot guys, hot guys-did I say that already. you guys need to get this book its amazing. I would give this 5/5 stars and 2/5 for movie moments.

Tate takes being a jerk of a boss & playboy to a whole new level. He is seriously trying to push his limits with Piper. You have to give her credit for putting up with him & all of his issues. I loved the back & forth with these two. The banter is awesome although I did want to yell at Piper for not telling Tate off several times. You can't help but falling in love with both characters in this book. It is funny & sweet as well as highly frustrating. I am giving it 4.2 stars out of 5. Go get this book!

That First Kiss is a fun, sexy story full of humor and emotional ups and downs. Piper is in desperate need of a job, and after landing her last hope she goes out with the girls to celebrate. A few drinks and a hot and heavy encounter with Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome later, Piper is ready to get serious about her new career. That is until she walks in on her first day to find her new boss is Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome. I liked Piper a lot. She was strong willed, confident, stubborn and not afraid to tell off Tate when he got out of line. She knew what she wanted out of life and was not afraid to go after it. Tate was completely charming and sexy when he wanted to be and a complete jerk the rest of the time. He was demanding and kept everyone at a distance. But when you get them together, watch out! I loved the interactions between Tate and Piper. They had definite chemistry from first site. Their working relationship was obviously edgy as they tried to keep it professional – well, at least Piper tried to keep it professional. Of course, the incredible sexual tension between the two did not help her at all. Throughout the story their relationship was all over the place. One never knew from one scene to the next what the other would want – minds would change, feelings would get hurt, and then it would start all over again. It was too hard to keep track of it all. All you need to know to read the story is that it was a fun read.

First of all I would like to thank J.C Valentine for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I don’t even know where to start with this one. As I was reading this on my break and lunch in work I was raving to anyone and everyone who would listen to me about how good this book is. If I could officially give it more than 5 stars then I would! This is the story of Tate and Piper. They ‘meet’ in a nightclub and have a very HOT hook-up, which they both walk away from never to be seen again. Well, that’s what they thought. I think I almost laughed from start to finish on this book, oh my days! Piper is my new girl HERO! There is a scene in the book that had me all like ‘you go girl’, in fact there are quite a few but this particular one was genius. Tate is the playboy, different hook-up every night type of bloke and he doesn’t apologise for it. Piper is the insecure, small town girl who at times gives as good as she gets with Tate. Yes this is your typical playboy meets girl book with the HEA ending but the way it has been written will have you hooked from the first page to the last. There are a few sexual scenes in the book and these had even me blushing. I read a lot of erotic/erotica books and OMG, I think my Kindle almost melted. The dialogue used throughout the book and the little one liners thrown in there were class. The story moved at a good pace and the scene setting moved through the book flawlessly. The character development was well written also. I’ve not read the first book in the series however, if J.C. Valentine continues to write books like this she is going to find herself on my favourite all time author list.

This was a very captivating novel that revolves around a will they/won’t they relationship.  Valentine pulled me in right from the very beginning and didn’t let me go until the fat lady sang.   Valentine is the type of writer who can pick any situation and make you see the possibilities behind it.  Although a very descriptive writer, she uses each word towards a greater goal.  Nothing is wasted on irrelevant details and everything combines for a seamless whole.  The world that she has created with this novel is so fully developed that you feel like you’ve lived there with the characters.  The characters in this novel are phenomenal.  They are real and have real hurts and fears.  As a reader you find yourself loving and hating them in equal measure.  And it’s not just the main characters that are well developed.  Each and every person who graces these pages is someone that you get to know.  I love how Valentine worked the characters from the 1st Night Calls novel into this book without overpowering the new lead characters.  It adds a sense of continuity to the series.  Overall, this novel was an amazing follow-up to the 1st Night Calls novel.  Valentine has me hooked and I can’t wait to read more.  This is definitely one author who, no matter what genre she writes, always keeps me captivated.  Each novel leaves me anxiously awaiting the next.   Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a fair/honest review. Wow. I loved everything about this book. Piper is strong yet fun, independent yet yielding-awesome, awesome female lead. hot bodied narcissistic ass-wipe (but in a "oh yea that's so good" way). Tom...Yum-who needs a spoon for that man. Piper's best bud Sheila...holy freakin cow what a character-loved her-I want one of her for myself.  The dialogue between all the characters even the peripherals was fantastic. Tate's mother-loved.her.  But what about Tate's creepy brother???? The story moves, hauls ass. I found myself rushing through daily tasks (like eating and showering) so I could get back to the book. The writing is great just enough detail that you feel it without sensory overload. I felt the emotions when Piper was pissed or Tate has a flash of emotion. My heart rate sped up a few times during the Vegas trip for fear that what I wanted to happen wasn't going to or that Cas was to involved. This is my first read for this author however I'm certain it will not be my last.  Oh and lest i forget...Piper+Tate+bathroom sink=COLD,COLD shower(s) And my friends that's in the very beginning of the book. Happy showering,er um I mean reading.

Reviewed by Natasha Jackson for Readers' Favorite In That First Kiss, we meet Tate and Piper, two people determined to overcome their pasts in very different ways. Tate Larson was betrayed by a woman he loved and vowed never to make the mistake of falling in love again. Piper Donovan has left her backwater town in Alabama, determined to rise up from her humble beginnings and succeed in the big city. After one steamy encounter in a club bathroom, Piper and Tate are forced into close proximity on a daily basis, much to the chagrin of both parties. Tate is constantly pushing Piper away with his abrasive behavior, but Piper, determined to succeed, is unwilling to let his behavior force her to give up a good paying job and hop on the next bus to Alabama. While at first I simply hoped Piper would throttle Tate, Valentine did a wonderful job of showing his progression from ogre to fearful of love. It was quite amusing to see Tate showing his affection in that tried and true elementary school way, without him ever realizing exactly what he was doing. Piper is a strong female character who hasn't quite grasped just how strong she is. Her friend Sheila is a fantastically sassy and hilarious addition to the story, as was the delectable Thomas. In fact, That First Kiss offers a few memorable secondary characters, including Poppy and Felix. J.C. Valentine has written a memorable story of unintended consequences and overcoming fears to find happiness. Initially I expected That First Kiss to be a typical tale of hate turning to love, but Valentine’s characters are multi-layered. They will frustrate you, and make you laugh, yell, and cry before the last page, which is how you'll know you've just read a truly endearing story.

This is the story of Tate and Piper, who meet at a night-club, share a quickie & a poignant kiss in a public bathroom, and then go their separate ways. Or not. It turns out that Tate is Piper’s new boss, and the following Monday they officially “meet” for the first time. The story is less angsty than I had expected. Some parts are very funny and Piper’s friend Sheila is a hoot. Tate starts off being a jerk, and for most of the book I seriously wondered what Piper possibly liked about him (besides the sex in the bathroom), especially when another gorgeous, nice suitor appears. Tate is absolutely horrible to her and to everyone else. His previous assistants have all quit, and Piper takes all his crap. Thankfully, Tate is redeemed on time and I found myself cheering for them to move past numerous misunderstandings.  The book moves quickly at times and then slows down in others, but it never lost my attention or interest. It was also less erotic than I expected, which is good because the sex scenes served to develop the romance and not just to fill the pages. It is still a very steamy story though. Great ending and epilogue, I would definitely read the next book. ARC received by author for review.

Piper Donavan gets a new job at Bookish Temptations as an assistant to author that most don’t want to work with. She decides to celebrate her new job by going out to a club with her friends. That’s were she meets Tate Larson. Let’s just say he has a very hot way of getting to know her. Of course the morning after their steamy encounter, things get difficult for Piper. She finds out Tate is her new boss, and Tate is determined not to make things easy for her. The only thing Tate doesn’t realize is, is that he’s in danger of falling in love with Piper. I would hate Tate one minute for being such a colossal jerk and then the next minute you can’t help but love him because he does something that makes him completely irresistible. What I liked about Piper was that she really didn’t take much of his bull either. And I liked the way Tate’s family, especially his mother, really welcomed Piper in with open arms. I was also ready to hate Tate’s ex, Casey, when she showed up. And not just because I thought she was going to try to keep Piper and Tate apart, but also because of the way she broke Tate’s heart years ago. But Casey surprised me by actually trying to help Tate and Piper. This was such a good book. It was the perfect blend of humor and heat. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read Wallbanger & Seduction and Snacks. A review copy was provided from the author in exchange for honest review.

This was given to me by the author for an honest review.  Loved the book and the story line. These are my favorite kind of books, because I love the struggling woman coming out on top with a great man. Piper and Tate are great characters with some serious hot chemistry. I was sucked into the book early, and the only reason it didn't get a 5 star rating was there seemed to be dip in the action about 3/4 of the way through, then picked back up again. Once I got past that slow patch, it finished well. Definitely recommend to those who enjoy contemporary romance.

I was given an ARC copy of this novel and I must say I finished it within 2 days. It would have been sooner if work did not get in the way. It was hard for me to put it down. It is not an extension of Stranded (Night Calls #1), but you see familiar faces make appearances in it. So there is no need to read Stranded to understand That First Kiss. The book itself was steamy and the story-line kept me intrigued. I found myself wanting to read on to see what happened to them. The romance was a fast one but you saw both Tate and Piper fight their own feelings, brushing them aside. Introduce an ex-lover and another possible heart-throb, the story gets better! The characters of Piper and Tate were so well thought out, along with the other supporting characters you will find in it. The writing was excellent, the descriptions put you in each place when it was needed, the steamy scenes were not over the top, too long or too short. It was just perfect! I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a good steamy romance :)

Arrogant author and playboy Tate Larson, has a love them and leave them approach. He feeds of the attraction and makes sure each woman is left with pleasure, but he has a hard and fast rule, never kiss them. Seeing Piper Donovan in the club, Tate is caught off guard, she is easily the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. He wants a touch, just a moment, but he is unprepared for the passionate, if brief, sexual encounter they share which ends in a kiss. Imagine the look on Tate's face when he meets his new assistant, none other than the beauty who has haunted his thoughts since their encounter. He tries to fire her, he gets flipped off. He acts as his usual surly self trying to chase his latest assistant away, she is not impressed and has no problem voicing her opinions about his behavior. Tate knows he is in trouble, he is falling hard for Piper which he vowed never to do again. Despite all that and with as much class as broken down jalopy, Tate tries to show Piper how he really feels and ends up chasing away the best thing that has every happened to him. Witty, laugh out loud humor. I loved Piper, she is tough cookie and I absolutely loved Tate, even when he was a jerk. The two together are walking mixed signals, which is the perfect blend for an outstanding story

I enjoyed reading this book, the story is well developed and so are the characters. Piper is definitely someone that knows what she wants, and is not about to let Tate overpower her. The tension in these two characters starts from the very beginning. There is no denying that Tate wants Piper, but he has to learn to overcome his fear of loving someone else. Determined to get a job, Piper ends working for Tate and as they both start to realize just how much they want each other, other people come in their way. As the pair start to realize that there could be something more than just one night stand, they will have to learn to put their past and differences aside in order to be together. I thought the book was very well-written, and the pace of the story kept me wanting for more. Both Tate and Piper's connection for one another is definitely addicting and I'm gland it all ended up in good note. I also love how the author included an epilogue, it made the whole story come to a good and satisfying end. Although I haven't read the first book, I'm definitely excited to read now.

4.5 Sexy, Steamy, Salacious Stars!  Hold Onto Your Panties Ladies, Tate Is On The Prowl! The Rundown:  Tate is a capricious writer with a trust issues, whose past has taught him those who believe in love, commitment and monogamy are destined to fail. Those things are myths people tell themselves to trap them in a doomed relationship. He’s a total alpha male who wants what he wants and makes no excuses for his temperamental and turbulent moods.  When we meet Tate for the first time, he is out clubbing, on the prowl, like most nights, looking for a quick hook up without complications. Seeing Piper across the dance floor, he’s instantly attracted to the dark haired, curvy beauty with the big brown eyes. She’s not his usual type but there’s just something about her that pulls at something deep inside him. Taking his chances and approaching her on the pulsating dance floor, Tate can’t get enough of her taste, her smell, her feel so without much preamble, he whisks her away to the ladies bathroom where they both have one of the most erotic encounters of their lives. Tate never kisses the girls he hooks up with because its too personal, but when the deed is done, Tate can’t resist kissing Piper’s soft, plump lips just once before leaving her. That one kiss is his undoing. Out on the town with her girlfriends before she starts her new job, Piper can’t believe she just lead herself on a mission of debauchery in the women's bathroom with a guy who’s name she didn't even get. But rebounding from a bad breakup, hooking up is about all she can handle at the moment so she enjoyed the adventure for what it was. When Monday morning arrives and her new job starts, she’s warned that she will be personal assistant to a moody writer who’s run off all his other PA’s. Determined to keep her job and a steady paycheck and not be forced to move back to her childhood home in Alabama, she sets out to find her new charge only to come face to face with her one night stand. The first thing he does? Fire’s her! The Review:  That First Kiss (Night Calls #2) is a steamy Adult Contemporary Romance written by J.C.Valentine and though this is the second book in the series, its a stand alone, full length novel. I read the first book in this series, Stranded which was a short/story novella and though I enjoyed it, this book, Completely. Blew. Me. Away! That First Kiss had me laughing, fretting and nervous for our would-be couple. And it had me completely seduced throughout the entire time I was immersed in this incredible read. In short, it was simply amazing! Tate was sexy, steamy, charming, over confidant, completely hilarious at times and a right royal ass at others but his moody temper and his impenetrable walled heart was no match for the irresistible Piper. Piper was strong willed, confident and beautiful. She worked hard, had morals and though she’d been trampled on, she still had hope. I loved her character! Their chemistry was off-the-charts hot and watching these two come together was sinful and fun. This book has it all. Steam, fun, angst, fabulous characters and heartfelt emotions. And best of all, there’s no cliffy and there’s a HEA! And as an added bonus, we also get to see glimpses of the continuing, developing relationship of Felix and Poppy from the first book, Stranded as Piper and Tate interact with them. The Wrap Up:  I love how J.C. Valentine writes the best confrontational scenes with entertaining dialogue and hilarious character interactions. I absolutely LOVED, and I do mean LOVED, Tate and Pipers first official meet. Sparks were flying, I was laughing and cringing at the same time, and their laughable and awkward encounter only cemented how much I would adore this crazy ride. And trust me, I wasn’t disappointed. This author has a way with romance, crazy off the wall characters and intense and fun scenes that will captivate your heart and leave you wanting more each time! I can't wait to read the next book in this series.  NOTE: I was kindly provided this eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

TITLE~ That First Kiss (Night Calls #2) AUTHOR~ J.C. Valentine GENRE~ Romance-Adult-Contemporary PUBLISHED~ June 18th 2013 by J.C. Valentine PURCHASED/COST~ ARC for review as part of Red Hot Obsessions MY RATING~ 4/5 MY THOUGHTS~  I chose to read this book because I received an ARC of Red Hot Obsessions for review and this book was included in it. That First Kiss is a great read! I had never read anything by this author, J.C. Valentine, before, but I'm glad I started! I love her writing style. The writing was great, although the story wasn't exactly original. I've read variations of this idea before, but the author very much made it her own. The characters were well developed and I loved "getting to know" the main characters. Actually, I can't wait to read the next book and get a more in-depth view of some of the minor characters from this book!  Overall, this book is a winner as I imagine the entire series will be!

The two characters in this book can't seem to make up their minds if they want a personal or professional relationship. It was somewhat frustrating when the male character tried on different occasions to proclaim his attraction to her and she ignored him. Then would get angry later because she wanted him to care for was a little confusing.

I am very surprised by the many glowing reviews for this book. I had a lot of problems with it. So many, in fact, that I didn't even finish reading it. The book bounces around, skimming over parts that could have been used to build a solid relationship between the two main characters. Instead, it seems the author was bored and just wanted to get to other parts of the book, like writing "combustible love scenes" that were severely lacking. I don't like the heroine. I find her crass and one dimensional. The male character is promiscuous in front of the heroine and it paints him in a bad light. There is nothing redeeming about him and I am  unsympathetic towards him. Finally, I stopped reading when I came to a very offensive line. The main character's girl friends want to give her a makeover and the author uses this line as a description. "Feeling like she was being led the gas chamber, Piper lifted her head resolutely." I stopped reading immediately. What sort of "author" would compare getting a make over to a gas chamber? It was revolting and a terrible analogy. Please don't waste your time on this terrible dribble. Its poorly written, not very interesting and as the title of my review says it all: offensive.
