That's Jazz: The Collection [Drive]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Bradley Torreano

Featuring a lineup that includes Billie Holiday, Glen Miller, Louis Armstrong, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Charlie Parker, and so many others, the album is a wonderful example of how good a jazz collection can be. There are a few artists that did not make the album that definitely should have (among them are Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, and Dave Brubeck), which may turn off some listeners. But what is here is excellent, from the gorgeous singing of Vaughan on "More I See You" to the resonating horn on Parker's "Quasimodo" to the awesome piano/guitar duel on Nat King Cole's "Sweet Georgia Brown." Anyone looking for a place to start their jazz collection should definitely start here, as well as anyone who simply wants all of these great performances in one place. That's Jazz is a well-crafted collection that should be very popular with jazz fans and casual listeners alike.
