All Music Guide - Matt Collar
The winner of the sixth season of the NBC reality show America's Got Talent, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. keeps things light and swinging on his 2011 debut, That's Life. A vocalist in the traditional pop style of Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr., Murphy sticks to Great American Songbook standards here, including his version of "My Way," which helped secure him the top spot on America's Got Talent. Murphy also tackles such chestnuts as "Ain't That a Kick in the Head," "That's Life," "Witchcraft," "I've Got the World on a String," and others. Backed by a full big band and orchestra throughout the album, Murphy's burnished baritone voice is clearly the showcase here, and That's...

One of the best debut albums ever recorded.

Does justice to Sinatra on every track while letting his own talent shine through. Backing band is fantastic. A must for Landau Eugene Murphy fans. Will have this one on the iPod for a long, long time. Thanks Landau!

    I really like this kid.

The whole Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. story is special. I enjoyed this album and would like to hear more from Landau with some music written for him. That said I thought he was a bit stiff on a few of these songs. He certainly has room for improvement yet I do enjoy when he lets loose. Nice arrangements and backup. Highlights here for me are That's Life, Ain't that a kick in the head, and especially his duet with Judith Hil on Something Stupid where he sounded so much more relaxed. Keep them coming Landau you class act!

    What a GREAT new artist!

I am not one to jump on the "reality show" bandwagon but I watched Mr. Murphy on "America's Got Talent" and couldn't help taking an interest in his success. I was not suprpised that the nation agreed with me that he was phenomenal and deserved to win. I loved his performances so much I had to buy this CD. I'M SO GLAD I DID!! I have practically worn out my copy and am now purchasing another copy for my boyfriend. This music spans generations - I grew up hearing my folks listen to these hits and now my 11-year-old son sings along and thinks every song is great. Mr. Murphy's renditions are perfect and I cannot wait for his next collection of classics to be released. I am a fan for life! Buy this CD - it's fantastic!!
