Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Dear Old Dad First published in Great Britain in 1986, That's My Dad by Ralph Steadman follows a funny description of a father from a child's vantage point. "That's my dad," begins the narrative. But, when questioned, the narrator describes characteristics that couldn't possibly belong to dear old Dad ("A fluffy tail?/ A trunk?"). The final portrait, combining all the silly features, will leave kids laughing and set their own imaginations spinning. ( Dec.) Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
Children's Literature
What has huge floppy ears, two big eyes, hundreds of teeth and spiky whiskers? It's a dad, from his child's perspective. This book takes a wild, exaggerated and really close up look at a dad's features from a child's point of view. Add a fluffy tail, lots of legs and a trunk and the story gets a bit wilder. (Now, that's definitely someone else's dad!) The artwork in the book is brightly colored, high-spirited and a lot of fun. Children will love this creative look at dad. The book would be great for encouraging creative expression in the classroom. The author won the Critici in Erba Prize for this work. 2001 (orig. 1986), Anderson Press, $8.95. Ages 4 to 7.
