Children's LiteraturePart of the "That's Our School" series, this book describes the daily events of Mrs. Geary, the school nurse at P.S. 87, Manhattan. Morris explains the various duties of a school nursesuch as treating bumps and bruises, teaching about germs and cleanliness, calling parents when students are sick, and checking for lice. Along with showing a typical workday of a school nurse, Morris also shows that Mrs. Geary has a life outside of the workplace. The book tells about Mrs. Geary's family and some of the activities that Mrs. Geary likes to do when she is not working. This concept of depicting something other than just a school setting can help readers understand that school nurses have lives outside of the workplace, even if they aren't Mrs. Geary. Morris also includes a "Things to Do" section at the back of the book, which provides ideas for readers to get to know their school nurse better, or to better understand what a school nurse does. This book is a good choice for readers who are interested in learning more about a school nurse's job. 2003, Millbrook Press, Ages 5 to 8.
