Overview

Over time, the stock market creates great wealth for investors. And yet, most investors do not become wealthy by investing in the stock market, instead having experiences that range from inadequate to disastrous. So why the disconnect? The answer is found in a set of widely held, mistaken beliefs about what it takes to be a successful investor. At first glance, these investment myths seem grounded in logic. In reality, though, these beliefs provide investors with perfect blueprints for investment failure by encouraging in them an emotion-driven, trading-intensive mentality. These myths are propagated by Wall Street, which reaps huge profits from this behavior and by the financial media that is starving for sensationalistic content. As an independent investment advisor, Jack Calhoun has spent much of the past 15 years educating investors about the dangers of these mistaken ideas. In (i)The 12 Investment Myths(/i), he explores and debunks these myths one-by-one and in the process sets investors on a path to harness the tremendous wealth-creation machine that is the stock market.

Editorial Reviews

Julie Blake
This book really opened my eyes to what the author refers to as "The twin forces of wealth destruction in America" (Wall Street & the media)& how they feed off of each other. If you are interested in the real keys to wealth creation & the truth that investing is boring & predictable when approached with a calm, unemotional mindset, this book is a must read.
It's a rare delight when a book actually delivers what it says it will...delivering powerful truths with a clever sense of humor...
M Craft
FINALLY, a book that makes some sense of investing in general. Instead of buying into the "media train" and all the almighty analysts who think they know everything about every stock and industry, Calhoun's book cuts through all the hype and lays it all out in a very pragmatic (sometimes quite witty)way that we can ALL understand.

Jack Calhoun's book is witty. Though it is full of investment wisdom there is an underlying sense throughout the book that wealth is only one part of achieving a peaceful and balanced life. It is written like an investor should be--witty and wise instead of greedy and glib
Richard Blake
He alerts the investor in changes in the stock that have impacted the stock market in recent years & the importance of diversification. Jack succinctly sums up the four principles of investment success this way: Diversify effectively, control costs & taxes, control your emotions, & be patient.
...profound advice, sage counsel & he is devoted to help the investor discern and recognize popular fallacies of investing. Jack's writing is energizing, entertaining and informational. A great book.
Trisha Addicks
I am a left (or is it right?) brained person who normally loses interest in anything financial about four seconds into reading. Not so with this book--the humor and stories that weave through the book kept my interest. Also, the author gives very sound advice for uncertain times--definitely a book to read and keep on your nightstand for referring back as the markets change daily!!
