Before the crash, they might have become investment bankers or lawyers, but the experience of so much loss and economic hardship has undermined their belief in traditional American values, and sent them off to "The 909" in search of new experiences. Now they're living as artists and writers, going from bar to bar, drinking too much, gossiping more than working, and exploring a new sexual freedom. Nothing, we learn, will improve for these people.
