Overview

Bestselling true-crime writer Harold Schechter, a leading authority on serial killers, and coauthor David Everitt offer a guided tour through the bizarre and blood-chilling world of serial murder. Through hundreds of detailed entries that span the entire spectrum -- the shocking crimes, the infamous perpetrators, and much more -- they examine all angles of a gruesome cultural phenomenon that grips our imagination.

From Art (both by and about serial killers) to Zeitgeist (how killers past and present embody their times)...from Groupies (even the most sadistic killer can claim devoted fans) to Marriage (the perfect domestic disguise for demented killers)...from Homebodies (psychos who slay in the comfort of their homes) to Plumbing (how clogged drains have undone the most discreet killer), THE A TO Z ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SERIAL KILLERS is the ultimate reference for anyone compelled by the personalities and pathologies behind the most disturbing of crimes.

First book I've actually sat down and read besides Psychology books on the subject. I was engulfed in it and found it very hard to put down. Such an abundance of knowledge I wasn't expecting and was thrilled to read. Definitely recommend to anyone interested in criminal psychology.

This book is an eye-opener! Read it at your own risk. You have to have a strong mind for this outstanding book. This is a very strong book for those who plan on majoring anything in the psycology or criminal justice field, reading this is the closest to the real thing you will ever experience in your life!Things that you would have no idea existed! I love it!

This is not your traditional encyclopedia of serial killers. Most are simply capsule bios of the killers. Here, along w/ mini-bios, Schechter/Everitt look closley at other topis in close relation to serial killers ( i.e., murder rings, partners, necrophilia ). That brings an interesting and fresh approach to the standard serial killer guide. I got a real pleasure reading this and use it as a reference often ( I'm a Criminology college major ). If you're looking for a STRICT serial killer encyclopedia, there are better ones. If, however, you want to learn much more than biographies, then this IS your guide!

I just got this book two days ago....and I've read it twice. I read it the first time in a day...then I thought that I may have missed something so I read it again. I enjoyed this book both times. It is simply one of the best serial killer books I have ever read.

This book is an eclectic and versatile look at serial murder. It's very imformative overall, but if you want a book that details the serial killers themselves, look elsewhere. Nonetheless, this book is a good read and actually funny (not that serial murder is amusing). I highly suggest it.

While I was reading this book it was hard for me to put it down because it shows you what goes on in people's minds and doesn't let you get bored. It's very difficult to put down and you really absorb the info

I really enjoyed reading this book because it showed me what people can really do. I really recommend this book to anybody who likes horror or just bored because you would really be hooked on this book.

If you are anything like me and do not enjoy reading but you enjoy learning about serial killers, than this book is for you. From page 1 to the end, I was hooked. This is the type of book that you don't have to read in order according to the pages. Feel free to roam about the book...enjoy the details...get inside the heads of the killers ...try to figure out what they were thinking when they committed their crimes... that is what I did and it made the book even more exciting. So take it from me, one who does not enjoy reading but enjoys learning more and more about criminals and the justice system...GET THIS BOOK...IT IS WORTH IT, BELIEVE ME!
