Children's LiteratureAGERANGE: Ages 6 to 12.
With subject names ranging from C is for Colorful coral reefs to K is for Kelp forests, the alphabet-corresponding subjects reach beyond just matching animals to their habitats and explore the numerous types of land and surroundings animals can live in, and how our life choices affect these habitats. An extensive variety of habitats are explained, piece by random piece, using creative ways to involve the reader, such as Q is for Quiz about habitats; the reader is able to participate in a short quiz and refer to the rest of the book for answers. This book is one in a series of alphabetically categorized nature books, "The ABCs of the Natural World," in which many aspects of the natural world are explained in short, easy paragraphs, complete with an index and a useful glossary. Colorful photographs, provided by a variety of photographers, add a realistic, educational touch that helps readers connect the facts they are learning about the plants with what they really look like, going beyond the typical dull, faded textbook photo approach. Adding this book to the available supplemental learning materials in the classroom may help the child who is a visual learner to grasp concepts that may otherwise be difficult. This entire series would be a great addition to the classroom on the science shelf, as the colorful photographs, interesting facts, and simple writing style make the books both fun and educational for children of any age.
