Editorial Reviews

Chicago Tribune
With its sharp, witty writing and unique characters, Angie Fox's contemporary paranormal debut is fabulously fun.
Diana Tixier Herald
Prim and proper preschool teacher Lizzie Brown is on the verge of her thirtieth birthday when her hitherto unknown grandmother shows up, quickly followed by a demon erupting out of her toilet who Lizzie surprisingly manages to blast into “a million flecks of light.” Raised by distant adoptive parents, Lizzie had no idea that she was born to be a demon slayer. This rollicking paranormal comedy will appeal to fans of Dakota Cassidy, MaryJanice Davidson, and Tate Hallaway.

    This is a winner!

So, after reading many positive reviews, I took the bait and got book 1 in this series. I love books with witty, grown-up banter, with characters who are interesting and layered and with a storyline that is new with a different twist. This, luckily, fits all of those categories and more. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although there are many specifics I could mention, it is much better to just read for yourself. You won't be disappointed. This is pure escape. And I'd definitely read again. For now, I'm on to book 2. I am anxious to see where this story will lead.

    I Also Recommend:

    A Funny, Witty, Sexy story

In her first of the series, Angie Fox gives us Lizzy who on her 30th birthday finds out the hard way that what she carries in her DNA is a Demon Slayer. This book was a humorous look at some scary situations involving some pretty dastardly characters from the demon realm. The author is a genius with her dialogue and her storytelling is unmatched. Her characters are charming and sexy and scary. There is an underlying love story with a sexy griffon, but that in no way takes away from the story only adds to it. The plot is so unique and original that it's obvious she didn't copy from the many, many other paranormals out there.
I would recommend this book to any one who loves a great paranormal read.

    Accidential Demon Slayer....

One of the funniest books I¿ve read this year. I loved this book. Lizzie Brown is leading a normal, predictable, boring life until the eve of her 30th b-day. When one knock on her door changes her world forever! A grandma she didn¿t know she had burst into her life immediately casting protection spells from an old smuckers jar, now filled w/ magic and various road kill organs. Only this is no ordinary grandma. No, she¿s a witch who rides a pink Harley and belongs to a coven with other elderly Harley-riding witches, known as the Red Skulls. Lizzie is informed that she is a demon slayer and thus her journey begins. This whole book was a hoot. Between the trailer park hideouts, imps on a death quest, pulling a dozen of black souls out of werewolves, and journeying to hell, the excitement never stops. From start to finish this book was hilarious and I look forward to book two due out in April 2009. I highly recommend this book.

My favorite authors and books are Kim Harrison-Rachel Morgan series, Jenna Black-Morgan Kingsley series what an innovative concept, Ilona Andrews- Kate Daniels series this character is tough tough tough, Caitlin Kittredge- love her Noctune City series, Rachel Caine- Weather Warden series, Larissa Ione- Demonica series, Richelle Mead- Georgina Kinkaid series and Dark Swan Series, Audra and Stella Price- Eververse series, Yasmine Galenorn- Sisters of the Moon series, Vicki Pettersson- Zodiac series; Jackie Keller- Hell on Earth series, T.A. Pratt- Marla Mason series; Mark Henry- Happy Hour of the Damned

    NOT another slayer knockoff story

This book is funny and just an enjoyable read, I was a little cynical and was expecting to groan aloud about cliches but surprisingly I found myself laughing out loud and smiling throughout the entire book. My mother also enjoyed it and she rarely ever reads fiction.

Angie Fox provides her bewitching spin with her preschool teacher

Adopted as a child, Happy Hands Preschool teacher Lizzie Brown lived the normal American life until the day she turns thirty years old. That is the day an older woman wearing a ¿Kiss My Asphalt¿ T-shirt and driving a pink Harley arrived at her Atlanta home. The woman who called her the day before claims she is her biological grandmother and that her coven is on the run. The tattooed stranger Gertie insists they need Lizzie, a genetic demon slaying witch, whose powers are about to erupt like Old Faithful counting down the final seconds like a space mission as Lizzie becomes the Exalted Demon Slayer of Dalea. Fearing more for her Jack Russell and her floor as Pirate senses trouble, Lizzie assumes she let a nut in her home until she goes to the bathroom. Sitting on her throne is an ugly demon.----------- To her shock Pirate not only adapts quite well, he becomes an eloquent English speaking terrier. With grandma and her dog at her side, Lizzie flees before all hell breaks loose. Joining the trio on the lam, as she learns to use her sudden bewitching skills is her self-proclaimed protector shapeshifting first class hunk (in human form) griffin Dimitri Kallinikos.----------------- From the moment that Gertie meets Lizzie, the atmosphere in Atlanta changes as she brings with her eccentricity, humor, and an odd mentoring as she claims Lizzie is the next generation in the DNA demon slaying pool. She also brings her coven and a horde of demons with her who all shares an identical focus for varying purposes: Lizzie. This sudden invasion turns Lizzie dizzy as her chick lit perspective provides urban fantasy fans with a frightening yet courageous superhero fans will know one thing as Lizzie kicks demon butt: she has Grandma¿s warped sense of humor. Somewhat on the surface similar to Julie Kenner¿s demon slaying soccer mom, Angie Fox provides her bewitching spin with her preschool teacher.------------ Harriet Klausner

    difficult to get through

The book had a few funny parts but was otherwise hard to get through. I found my self skimming instead of reading just to get it over with. The same goes for the rest of the series.

    Fun of Two Wheels

My thoughts...Whooo Baby. I bought these books a while back and since I am hosting the Bottom's Up challenge, I decided they were a great place to start. Plus, Angie is coming to do an interview in February to celebrate the release of the third book in the series. So, I don't know why I waited so long to read this, I loved it!

So let me start with the characters. The Biker Witch gang, which is led by her long-lost Grandmother, made me laugh through the whole entire book! They are a wild, crazy, and very spirited group of Harley riding, rhinestone wearing, spell slingin', old people. They make these roadkill magic spells, which they store in mason jars, to do strange things like giving people the giggles and freezing underwear. What a bunch! Next we have Dimitri-YUM! He of course, is the tall, dark, and furry hero who sweeps the heroine off her feet. Yes, I did say furry, he is a griffin. The leaves me with Lizzy and her dog Pirate. I adored Lizzy immediately because I can identify with her so well. She was a preschool teacher who tried very hard not to swear and live an organized, planned life. As you guess from the title of this book, plans change. Angie Fox did a brilliant job with the characters in this book. They are all very memorable, even the secondary ones, and very likable.

Of all the paranormal creatures, to me, Demons are the scariest. So while this book was funny and action packed, parts of it were dark and scary. The story line takes you all over the country on the back of a Harley and straight to the underworld. The plot was fast paced and exciting. It kept me guessing about the integrity of the characters and the choices Lizzy made in each situation. The story wrapped up nicely, but it left a nice lead into the next book, The Dangerous Guide for Demon Slayers. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves paranormal stories for adults.

The cons...I can't think of anything negative about the book. I am really looking forward to the rest of the series, I guess the con is that beyond book 3, I will have to wait.

One sexy griffin, a wild Harley motorcycle riding grandmother and a talking Jack Russell terrier!

Preschool teacher Lizzie Brown's life may never be the same when her long lost witch grandmother shows up driving a hot pink Harley and starts casting magic spells from Smucker's jars. Pirate, her Jack Russell terrier, starts talking! Lizzie discovers that she is the exalted Demon Slayer of Dalea and a demon, Xerxes, emerges from her toilet to cause even more havoc! As they head to Memphis to join the grandmother's just as strange coven to learn magic, Dimitri Kallinikos, a shape shifting griffin shows up as her mentor. Teaching her the three rules of demon slaying, he is both protector and teacher. Dimitri, however, needs her to slay a demon of his own and as their feelings for each other grow, Lizzie and Dimtri are forced to make tough choices when family loyalties come into play in a battle begun generations ago.// Told through Lizzie's eyes, THE ACCIDENTAL DEMON SLAYER, follows the heroine on the journey of her maturation and self-discovery in a well-imagined world ever so kooky yet touched by wonderful dash of tenderness. Within 12 hours, Lizzie has lost her home, her job, her clothes, and her friends to follow her grandmother, accused of murder, to be trained in magic and face demons and her destiny as the new family demon slayer. Unaware of the extent of her powers or her family history, Lizzie struggles to make sense of the crazy world her grandmother opens before her. As she comes to face with The Witches of the Red Skull with its cantankerous witch Ant Eater, werewolves, and above all her own magical powers, Lizzie sees the humorous outrageousness of her situation with a unique sense of innocence and irreverent sass. Although her dog Pirate plays the tough guy, the reader sees the tenderness within Lizzie's heart through him. Dimitri, her protector and mentor, awakens the woman in Lizzie with his body and kiss. Dimitri helps Lizzie focus on her powers and concentrating her magic when her magic turns her familiar world topsy-turvy.// Oh my, THE ACCIDENTAL DEMON SLAYER is a fun book! Angie Fox's world and adventures had me laughing as the vivid and hilarious scenarios got funnier and funnier. The grandmother and her group of witches were a total scream. Angie Fox mixes paranormal with a fun, bold smart tone but by the end, I felt myself immersed in Lizzie's whole world and the drama playing out in her family. Angie Fox's humor gives way to a suspenseful adventure that keeps the reader on the edge as Lizzie and Dimitri face the ominous dangers ahead. The final leg of the journey is spectacular ---.not a gradual let-down but an ever increasing delightful unveiling, not just once but in several gradual layers. Intricacies with wonderful twists and revelations of the paranormal world kept me riveted to this book. What an ending! With her debut book, Angie Fox has created a wonderful magical world that will have readers eager to re-enter and anxiously awaiting her next release!
