School Library Journal - School Library Journalea. vol: 31p. diags. glossary. index. (Wings: Conquest of the Air Series). Watts. 1987. PLB $10.90. Gr 4-7 Two titles designed to attract military aviation enthusiasts. The Aces is a brief discussion of some of the pi lots and planes of World War I, includ ing the Red Baron and Eddie Ricken backer. Many of the fighting tactics and planes are described as well as the na tional markings on airplane wings. There is also a page listing the major aces from each country. Air Battles uses the same format to describe a few of the major battles of World War II. It also briefly discusses the role of the night fighter, the daylight raider, and the battles with the jets. The format of each volume is basically one page of text accompanied by a full-page color illustration. The illustrations are full of action and are accompanied by detailed captions which add to the text. Both volumes conclude with two pages of aircraft data in which planes of the peri od are illustrated and statistics are giv en. These two are very similar to the ``20th Century Weapons'' series and ``Soldier Through the Ages'' series (both Watts). They should make a di rect hit. Eldon Younce, Harper Ele mentary School, Kans.
