  • Adapting acting techniques to different media: stage, film, TV, and radio

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
In 11 chapters, Powell takes the aspiring actor from preparation of the instrument to self-marketing in the profession. Serving well as a snapshot of acting as a career, the book covers what the aspiring actor is getting into rather than substantial consideration of how to perform, and no topic warrants more than two or three paragraphs. Powell freely admits this and guides interested readers to additional resources that cover the various disciplines in greater detail. The text is peppered with quotes from such luminaries as Konstantin Stanislavsky, David Mamet, and, most entertaining, Marlon Brando. The book is handsomely illustrated with stills from memorable films and theatrical productions. The focus is more British than American, but the truths espoused about the profession are universal. VERDICT An attractive volume that caters to modern attention spans and works well as both inspiration and caution. Recommended.—John Frank, Los Angeles P.L.
