The Adventures of Beowulf: Translated from the Old English and Adapted to the Use of Schools
The old English poem, Beowulf, though familiar to students of literature, is a sealed book to the average boy and girl. For this reason, if for no other, Miss Clara Thomson has done a real service to the cause of education by presenting an admirable version of the poem in an inexpensive form so as to be readily accessible to children. The introduction is, perhaps, a little too erudite for juvenile readers, and there is a note of Imperialism in it which may not be altogether calculated to produce a good effect on the youthful Anglo-Saxon mind. The narrative, as Miss Thomson has dealt with it, is really a most delightful story of adventures. The little volume is nicely printed and is issued at almost a nominal price.
