Chapter One

Once upon a time, across many oceans, across many mountains and many lands, was a great city. A city known for magic and mystery. A city surrounded by a wall. A wall that stretched five thousand miles long. In this city were great numbers of humans. People ranged in the millions, and they all had different jobs to do, and they did them very well.

What the people in this city were known for were the incredibly delicious foods that they would create. In fact, their foods were so delicious that they had vast armies to protect them.

One night, one of the emperors generals, Black Dragon, said, "All this should be mine! I deserve to rule this great city! I should rule all the armies! I should have everything!"

The spies of the city took this information back to the emperor, and when he heard of this betrayal, he was very sad. In order to protect himself, he cast out Black Dragon from the great city. But before Black Dragon left, he convinced three-fourths of all his warriors, hundreds of thousands, to come with him. When they were all cast out, the emperor sat in his throne room alone. He thought, "What am I going to do? What happens if Black Dragon decides to attack one day? Hell take all our food and all our precious things, and we will be defenseless!"

As the great emperor thought of these things, the doors of his throne room opened, and standing at the doorway was one of his loyal servants, another general. Her name was Kim. Kim Ling. Kim Ling bowed her head and walked toward the emperors throne. And when she arrived, she raised her head and said, "Master! I have a friend. A friend who lives far, far away. She comes from another land, but she is so great and so wise at hiding food that I think maybe we should bring her here so that she can help us."

The emperor, with his head down, still very concerned, listened to his general. After listening for a while, he finally raised his head. He raised one eyebrow and said, "Bring her to me."

As General Kim Ling heard these words, she bowed her head and walked out the door. As the doors closed behind her and she entered the streets of the city, she wondered, "How can I get my friend and her family all the way over here?" As she walked and thought, she looked up and noticed children playing on the streets with balloons. One of the children accidentally let go of his balloon. It floated high into the sky. As she saw this, a smile came upon her face. She knew exactly how she was going to bring her friends over. "Thats it! Ive got it! A hot-air balloon! I will send a hot-air balloon to my friends and bring them over safe and sound."

Kim Ling ran to her army camp, appointing one of her soldiers to bring her friend and her friends family back to the citysafe and sound. She showed the soldier the hot-air balloon that was on the street. It was large. All over the balloon were beautiful paintings of dragons, tigers, praying mantises, snakes, and monkeys. It was an amazing sight!
