Revisionist historians have relegated George Washington to an evil white European male who is to be excoriated because he had slaves and fought Indians rather than to be admired for his service in the American War for Independence and for being our first President. In a lot of modern history books, he gets maybe a paragraph or two that highlights his faults. No one is claiming that Washington was perfect, but he should be judged according to the times in which he lived instead of according to the sensibilities of modern day political correctness. Margaret (Mickie) Davidson wrote a lot of very fine non-fiction children's books, many of which were published by Scholastic. This one is the kind of good biography that young children deserve, presenting George Washington as he really was, "First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen," not how the left would like to portray him. As I did research on the book, I have concluded that this must be the same book that was originally published by Atheneum under the name "Margaret Davidson" and republished by Scholastic under the name "Mickie Davidson." Unfortunately, it is out of print, but used copies are available.
