About the Author

About The Author
Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), better known by his pseudonym Mark Twain, was an American writer and humorist. Apprenticed to a printer, Twain became an expert typesetter and riverboat pilot before trying his hand at goldmining, which was unsuccessful. Twain then became a journalist, writing a series of successful short stories. Twain's fame as a writer was firmly established by the 1876 publication of THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER, and THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN in 1884. When Twain died in 1910 he was hailed as the "greatest American humorist of his age." William Faulkner later wrote that he was "the father of American literature."
