Overview

The African Cross Stitch Collection is the culmination of years of work and research on African life and its fascinating customs. The works show the wonderful abundance of scenic, plant, bird and wildlife that so naturally subsist in the sunshine filled environment of Africa. Trish Burr has designed a collection of cross stitch projects, depicting enchanting images of everyday African life in a semi-realistic, bright, colourful and vivid way, from sunrise to sunset, and has added little folklore stories to accompany some of the designs.

The projects progress from quick and easy designs towards more challenging projects for the advanced stitcher. An alphabet chart and motif library are included so that readers can design their own projects.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Burr, a lifelong resident of Zimbabwe, here pays tribute to the sun-drenched landscape of Africa with animal, plant, and wildlife scenes stitched in vivid colors. Included are 25 projects for cards, bookmarks, and pictures, along with 25 separate motifs that can be used in original designs. Vivid colors and well-delineated designs make the book stand out from many other cross-stitch compilations. It should be quite popular with cross stitchers who wish to delve into African symbolism and culture. Warmly recommended for large public libraries and subject collections. Extremely Talented Designer

These designs are like music to the eyes. I stumbled over this book and plan to search out Trish Burr's other books. There is joy in these designs--the use of brilliant color and shading is lovely. The projects would make great unique gifts yet the motifs can be adapted for other projects that suddenly spring to mind. I think a toddler would be enamored with a cross-stitch afghan sporting these colorful ostrich, chameleon, giraffe, cheetah and kudu. Thank you Trish Burr--it is obvious you love what you do.
