This book is a real find from a great new author. It takes the action/spy genre and mixes it up perfectly with mysticism/spirituality, pathos, humanitarianism and romance for a very original novel that will grab you from the first page and not let go till the last. Very satisfying. Check out jaylumbert.com to find out more about the author and his motivations for his books. A cool guy.

I gave it a 2 only because I did make it to the end of the book. The story was too cheesy for me. It was like this guy was some super hero, but not a comic book one. Hummmm, Anyway, I also did not like that his father went by Trance and so did he. It was a bit confusing at times. Sorry, but I would not recommend this book.

WOW! What a ridiculous book. I kept thinking that it was something meant for 'young adults'. I stuck with the story because it was kinda fun. It had a comic book feel to it. The super powered hero, Jack Trance, had an arsenal of skills that defied any form of logic. Kind of like a combo of James Bond, Batman and any X-man of your choice. There were 'romantic scenes' that read like the cheesiest of cheesey romance novels. Hopefully Mr. Lumbert meant for this to be a spoof.

This book grabbed me from start to finish. Reminds me a lot of Ludlum in his early days, before his work got stale. The plot is a bit like a Patterson, with the intelligence of a DeMille. I am always on the look-out for fast-paced thriller that is well written. This seems to be a dying art. Much harder to find new stuff that I can stomach. I've pretty much exhausted the classics. Read most of them more than once. Needless to say, I was enormously pleased when a friend told me about this great new writer named Jay Lumbert. I found The Alchemist Conspiracy to be very fresh, with a gritty edge and a smart, intellectual undercoat. There are a couple of stories working here. There is this mystery thriller racing across the pages. Then I found these little sub-plots scurrying around the back of my mind. While I chose to focus on the story, I couldn't help but start thinking about some of the shadow topics of this book. Time and time travel. Religion and Christianity. Good versus evil. Power versus what's right. Global politics. Got my imagination chasing its tail sometimes. Gave me a good kind of dizzy. I loved this story. And I think I know where Jay was trying to take me with some of the understory. I don't want to ruin that for you, so I won't go into that here. I do encourage you to try this book, however. It rates a very hefty five stars for me.

The Alchemist Conspiracy is the first book in a series centered around the life of Jack Trance and the wide world of conspiracy and intrigue. Jack is a man of honor who is constantly torn between duty, family, and the choices we have to make when we step outside the microcosm of our world and into the macrocosm of politics, spirituality, the desire for power above all else, and the need to restore balance. Jay has written a fast paced book that weaves stories, lore, and the search for eternal life into one powerful book. As with all Jay's books it is well worth reading, and reading again. His books make you thing about what you would do in the same situation; and the answers are never easy. Enjoy and expect to have trouble putting it down.

Put down that "same old" book you're reading right now and get your hands on a copy of this book. You won't put it down ! Am always looking for new writers that are exciting, and this is surely one of them. Full of intrigue, spies, and even a little romance. The characters come alive quickly and the plot will keep you reading well past your bedtime. Don't be the last person you know to read this book. A new book by Lumbert is on the way and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.
