Overview

One run in the woods wouldn't matter, or so thinks werewolf Stefanie Porter. Being cooped up in her apartment for months must have messed up her instincts, because her former pack almost catches her until a mysterious lone wolf jumps in to help Stefanie escape.

The cruel Alpha Wyatt not only stole her pack but refuses to give Stefanie her freedom. She can't hide in her apartment any longer or it will drive her crazy. She puts her trust in the lone wolf who can teach her some of his unusual urban survival tricks. James Roberts might be a bit geeky, but he's smart and looks hot when the argyle sweater comes off. His ridiculous ambition to become a superhero might be admirable if Wyatt couldn't rip him limb from limb.

With the pack scouring the city for her, Stefanie must convince James to teach her and control her own Alpha nature, or fight not only for her life, but his as well.

Stephanie Porter, and alpha on the run, hiding out from her old pack. Stephanie had inherited her pack upon the death of her father. She had run it fairly watching out for all its members. The three lone wolves asked to join and she accepted they. Matt soon became involved with her sister Starr, Jane and Colin weren't to bright but they had muscles. Little did she realize they were there to infiltrate the pack to pave the way for Matt's brother Wyatt to take over. Shortly after Wyatt arrived he challenged Stephanie for the pack. Stephanie lost, but Wyatt didn't run her off. Instead he kept her in the basement and beat her regularly and that was the best part of her stay in the basement. Wyatt wanted as a mate and did not care if she wanted him.

She eventually escaped and ran settling in Carmine. She found a place to stay, work in the best butcher shop in town and was close enough to the woods for some runs one in a while. She knows Wyatt and the others are close and has been hiding out in the apartment for weeks. Unable to stand it any more she decides to chance it and go for a run to calm her nerves and for enjoyment. Unfortunately her old pack is running in the woods that night too. When Scott and June corner her a rogue wolf comes to her rescue. He shows her a way out and takes her to the edge of the woods.

Stephanie is surprised when the same wolf comes up to her at the art supply and book store. After discovering James is a made wolf and he has learned to mask his sent Stephanie agrees to meet him the next day. Unfortunately Wyatt finds her before then. While trying to escape Wyatt she comes across James once more and he again shows her a way to escape so that Wyatt and the others can't track her. With no choice they ban together. Stephanie must decide whether to fight for her pack or take flight once more.

An intriguing series about the residents that resides on the 13th floor of an apartment building. Follow Stacy as she comes to terms with her past and decides what is best for her and James. Should she challenge Wyatt knowing she will die if she fails or should she and James start a new pack forgetting about her sister forever. What is really going on in the city? How is it that the 13th floor can hide itself from some people? This novella may be only 45 pages, but Christine packs quite a punch in those 45 pages. This is a stand alone book but if you would like to learn about others on the 13th floor pick up 1301 : The Marquis, 1303 : The Dragon Slayer, 1304 : The Harbinger. All of which are available now. 1305 & 1306 : The Oracle and The Vampire should be available sometime in May 2013.

The Alpha by Christine Rains The Alpha is the second novella

    The Alpha by Christine Rains

The Alpha is the second novella in the series The 13th Floor.

Werewolf Stefanie Porter is a female Alpha that has been dethroned by Wyatt, a manipulative and vicious Alpha seeking a new pack. After being imprisoned and beaten, she finally managed to escape, and has sought sanctuary in apartment 1302 in the city of Carmine on the mysterious 13th floor. She is now trying to rebuild her life apart from a pack.

When her old pack catches up with her, during a run in the woods, a mysterious lone wolf jumps in to help Stephanie escape. With the pack scouring the city for her, Stefanie must put her trust in James Roberts to teach her some unusual urban survival tricks.

This story has an interesting twist in that Stephanie is a female Alpha that was born from a long line of Alphas, so it is not surprising that she insists on doing things her way. She is strong, smart, and protective of her pack, however she needs their psychological support for added strength. James is an enigma to her, he is a turned wolf, and was taught by his sire how to hide his scent. Everything about Ms. Rain’s werewolves is unique; I found it a refreshing change from the norm.

The main characters are original and well drawn. We are also given enough information about the secondary characters to understand how they influence our heroes and the plot. I enjoyed the interaction between Stephanie and James; no matter how hard she tried, she could not get away from her wolfish tendencies. The wolf wants what the wolf wants, period, the end, that’s that. The action is nonstop from the very beginning as they try to escape the wolf pack and there are a couple of graphic fighting scenes that are well done. It was interesting to note that this story is happening simultaneously with the story from The Marquis, as the demon is wreaking havoc on the city of Carmine. It was clever of the author to weave these two stories together this way; I have to admit it took me a minute to catch on though. I also have to say I liked the way The Alpha ended; it completed the circle and brought a smile to my face.

This is book two of The 13th Floor series and while it can be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend reading The Marquis first.
This book contains adult language and situations that may be offensive to some.
I found no significant errors or issues.

Christine Rain¿s 1302 ¿ THE ALPHA twists the norms of paranormal

Christine Rain’s 1302 – THE ALPHA twists the norms of paranormal romance on its head.

Werewolf Stefanie Porter needs to stretch her legs after being cooped up for months in her apartment, but the one time she goes out, her old pack has found her. She won’t let their Alpha Wyatt capture her again. A lone wolf saves her life. James Roberts wants to use his werewolf powers to be a superhero, and he will do anything to help Stefanie, teach her his tricks. But this Alpha wolf is used to doing things on her own, and she doesn’t want to get James killed. She’ll have to find a way to trust James and reclaim her pack or die trying.

THE ALPHA takes place during the same time as 1301 – THE MARQUIS. Stefanie is a strong woman, the Alpha, but she also has a creative and protective side. James is adorable and geeky, so unlike the normal alpha males in romance novels. Their budding relationship during the chaos brought to Carmine city is refreshing. I love how this story adds to the series and weaves in pieces of book one into this novella. And the villains range from vicious to borderline insane to full of delightful gray areas. Rains laces the smoking yet sweet romance with nail-biting tension in this fast-paced story.

Once again Christine Rains has created a unique romance novella filled with an original twist on werewolves in 1302 – THE ALPHA.
