It’s amateur hour at the White House. So says New York Times bestselling author Edward Klein in his new political exposé The Amateur. Tapping into the public’s growing sentiment that President Obama is in over his head, The Amateur argues that Obama’s toxic combination of incompetence and arrogance have run our nation and his presidency off the rails. “Obama was both completely inexperienced and ideologically far to the left of Americans when he entered the White House,” says Klein. “And he was so arrogant that he didn’t even know what he didn’t know.” Klein, who is known for getting the inside scoop on everyone from the Kennedys to the Clintons, reveals never-before-published details about the Obama administration’s political inner workings and about Barack and Michelle’s personal lives, including:

  • The inordinate influence Michelle wields over Barack and her feud with a high-profile celebrity
  • The real reason Rahm Emmanuel left the White House (it wasn’t for family reasons)
  • Why Valerie Jarrett’s role is closer to that of Rasputin than impartial senior advisor
  • Obama’s problems with American Jews
  • How Obama has purposefully forgotten and ignored those that put him in power, including the Kennedys, and the Jewish and African American communities in Chicago

From Obama’s conceited and detached demeanor, to his detrimental reliance on Michelle Obama and Valerie Jarrett’s advice, to the Obamas' extravagant and out-of-touch lifestyle, The Amateur reveals a president whose blatant ignorance and incompetence is sabotaging himself, his presidency, and America.

Editorial Reviews

Praise for The Amateur

The Amateur is the best book I’ve read on how Barack Obama is wrecking our country. I urge everyone who cares about America to read Edward Klein’s eye-opening book.”
Donald J. Trump, world-famous businessman, owner and host of the hit NBC TV shows The Apprentice and Celebrity Apprentice, and bestselling author of many titles, including Time to Get Tough: Making America #1 Again

“This is a racy, entertaining, informative book that illuminates aspects of Obama and his team that have not been previously reported. A necessary antidote to the Obama worship that is sure to characterize the election debate.”
Dinesh D’Souza, president of The King’s College and bestselling author of The Roots of Obama’s Rage

“All the horrors I predicted in Welcome to Obamaland have now been definitively proven true by Edward Klein’s rip-roaringly readable new book The Amateur, which uses great stories and great reporting to illustrate just how ideological, arrogant, and hapless Obama and his administration really are. An outstanding demolition job on the most overrated president of our time.”
James Delingpole, columnist for the Daily Telegraph and the Spectator and author of Welcome to Obamaland

“A devastating indictment of the lethal combination of incompetence and radicalism that has made Obama into one of the worst presidents in American history.”
Norman Podhoretz, former editor of Commentary magazine and author of many books, including most recently, Why Are Jews Liberals?

How easy for anyone to dismiss a book written out of verifiable sources. Most of those who dismiss the book or even question its credability either did not do their homework and did not take an in depth look of the truth and facts, or they are in denial and cant face the truth and live in fantacy world. I am sick and tired of the left winged blaming George W. all the time. Yes I agree Bush was a disaster, especially his last term in office, however, let us not forget that during his last years of office, Congress was controlled by the Democrats, who made most of the policies that also had their hand in the disaster. The fact is it has been more than three years and its time for the president, his administration and the Democrats to start taking responsabilty and man up to their failures. Additionally, how can anyone say the book is based on lies? Anyone can easily comment and say the book is all lies, but can anyone prove it? And as far as President Obama being more republican than other repbulicans is obsurd, someone is really living in a utopian like state of mind. And to the comment that the failure and disaster of the Bush years had easily set up his successor with failure is nonsense. Can that be said of the transition between the Carter administration to th Reagan administration? If so, then Reagan may have been set up by the previous administration to fail; however, one slight difference from this obsurdity, Reagan succeeded. And he was faced with a more disasterous economy than our current president, look it up. I am not afraid either to mention my name. There is no reason to be "anonymous".

Well written and documented. Extremely informative and not flattering. If you want to know why Obama and others like him continue to get elected, look no further than the 1 star ratings for this book.

Thank yous to Mr. Klein for reporting the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about Obama's cynical anti-American roots, and how Obama's fundamental prejudices have created the poisonous regime, divisive rhetoric, and catastrophic economic devolution of America. For those of us who never fell for Obama's rhetorical tricks, this book is a wholesome affirmation of the good voices that gave warning of Obama the Deceiver. Obama's passionately misled devotees, will angrily reject this book. These hoodwinked liberals, who, even now, after all his failures, stillf, fanatically deny the obvious, deeply corrupted, ersatz, flim-flam con-artist that Obama truly is, should consider the low regard of the long line of important people who know Barack, have known him for decades, and who are telling the truth. Nobody likes to be conned, or, even worse, to have to admit they were bamboozled by Obama. To them I recommend a sober reading of this book, and a clearheaded re-evaluation of the man who spoke of transparency, and gave them, instead, incompetency, hype, false hope, sweeping, unconstitutional power grabs, and a complete lack of leadership. This book is the telling of how the real Obama snaked his way to the Presidency by manipulating every person he ever used to serve his own self-aggrandizement. We owe Mr. Klein our respect and gratitude. This book should be required reading for every liberal college student, voter, and lover of America, its values, and its courage to admit that it sometimes elects the wrong man. The sad proof is in this book.

The "in the tank for Obama" news media will do all it can to discredit the author and this book. The author interviewed in person and tape recorded many of those interviewed who elected to share insider information regarding the Obama husband and wife, within and outside the White House. Those inteviewed include personal friends of the Obamas, such as the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Ophra Winfrey among others. The author purposely included information that was verifiable; therefore, Mr. Klein's book is not a gossip columnist's accounting of a he said-she said venue. The "real" Obama picture is alarming and serves to frame the President of the United States as clearly out of his comfort zone insofar as having no leadership skills or experience, no governing experience, and no international experience, and, therefore, makes the valid argument that President Barack Obama is ill-equipped and incapable of assuming the tasks of being Commander-in-Chief of the US military and leader of the most important free nation in the world. A must read for all who want information the liberal news papers and cable news organizations will not tell you.

This relatively short, and easy to read, book contains so much information about Obama and his far left administration that it is just mind-boggling. It reveals where he came from, how he got into politics, who mentored and supported him, who is in his inner circle, who likes him, and who does not. The information comes from sourced interviews of people who actually do or have worked for him, or have dealt with him politically. Early on in this book you will read Reverend Jeremiah Wright's opinion of Obama, and it isn't what you might expect. Many powerful and respected people have come and gone from the White House. This book tells not only the "Who" but also the "Why".

This book quotes sources and names the names. I had high hopes for Obama like many others but he is nothing more than a modern day Nero. He surrounds himself with a narcissitic supply group and this book opens that up for evetyone to see.

I read the Klein book over the past couple of days, not much of a feat since it is only 181 pages. It is, as he admits up front,a journalistic treatment, and as such it is full of anecdotes you have heard previously and focused on sensationalism. There is a good bit of opinion masquerading as fact combined with a reasonable effort to differentiate conservative and liberal ideologies. Still, by the end of the book, I had a fair synthesis of Obama's life, attitudes, and presidency, and it left me with anything but a flattering portrait of him, his wife, and their staffs. But what I really took away from it was a sense of dispair for our political sytem. Ultimately, the book reinforced my growing fear that our politcal system is broken. One could use the text and roughly the same stories and context and substitute members of the Reagan, Clinton, or second Bush administrations and have the same sense of what is going on. It is a world of personal pettiness, double-crosses, corruption, and gotcha-politics where politics and self-interest trump policy and the needs of the American people on virtually every issue. Politics is a business where the objective is power--gaining it, exercising it, and retaining it. In the end , the book reminded me that the leadership of Democratic administrations is no more committed to egalitarian access to and sharing of power than than they criticize the Republicans for. I don't know the answer or the right approach to getting it, but some of us need to go to work to fix the system before it is too late.

"The Emperor has no clothes." Stunningly reveals what I strongly suspected. Some of the quoted sources are obviously seeking some sort of revenge but even when that is taken into account, the description of an ideological political "amateur" comes into focus. Why his supporters never saw this would be a fascinating study. I think most people that support/supported him saw what they wanted to see.

How does one add more debt in 3 years than all others in 230+ years? Pure, unadulterated amateurism.

Very well done delineation of the issues that should concern us all about the Obama administration. I was surprised that most of the sources were quoted by name. Edward Klein has done an outstanding job. I really hope this book is read by millions and winds up being discussed all over the TV dial.

Great book...although we already knew about some of what's in the book, it did have a lot of things I didn't know about the resident in the White House. It didn't change my mind about him at all, November can't get here soon enough....

Thanks for saying that. And I would just like to point out that Bush only had 3 trillion dollars of national debt by the end of eight years, and Obama already has around 15.

This author has earned his credible rating, not for what he wrote, but the fact that he recorded it, verified it and even allowed some of the subjects to review what was written. The "One Star" reviewers are voting based on personality and wishful thinking. The rest of us are reviewing and rating the material based on its accuracy. It is scary what is revealed by the author and I wish/hope that the lack of leadership does not become irrepairable in the world community. Having been in some of the places where POTUS has "apologized", I can only state that these other countries won't embrace us for it, they will only look for more ways to gain the upper hand. This is a naive President, and this book seems to substantiate my previous opinion of lack luster President. Hopefully, it is one and out.

This is a MUST Read. It is funny for the facts come out and the liberals don't want to listen to them. It is great that Edward Klein called Obama "The Amateur". Look at his record and other reports. Buy this book and learn the truth. We can't have 4 more years of someone who is an amateur in governing the country.

Good book covering why and how Obama has lead us down to the road to destruction. The publishers description of this book says it all. You dont want to pass up this highly informative book!

Great book. You will find the details in this book are no surprise to objective thinkers who knew what 0bama was and expected his shortfalls due to his left leaning ideals. The readers who take offense are zealots to his cause and are frankly pathetic. This book was recomended to me and many of my friends of all political backgrounds are reading this and coming to the same conclusion.

A liberal former New York Times editor writes a devastating biography of Barack Obama. The book is based on 200 interviews of people who personally knew Barack Obama, including the first major interview with Jeremiah Wright and even Obama's personal physician. The result is one of the most important political books of the year. You will never look at Barack Obama the same way again.

Reading the negative reviews it's interesting that most of them never mention reading the book.

I wasn't going to read this book, since I don't particularly care for books about politics, until I read the so-called reviews by democrat party operatives here and elsewhere. I read it, and didn't find anything new in here. Everyone, even those who drank the Obama Kool Aid, know the facts in general in this book. However, we don't know the details. This book gives the details of the worst and most corrupt administration in US history.

This book is an easy read which brought back, into my mind, the "promise" of Obama in 2008 and the reality he has become in 2012. His promise of "a new direction" has turned, in three short years, into an economic doldrum, from which there does not appear to be any easy escape. And, he blames everyone except himself: he still wants to blame George Bush II for the failure of economic policies which he (Obama) instituted; his foreign policy is a disaster because he doesn't have one (killing Osama Bin Laden is not a foreign policy); his ObamaCare is turning out to be another economic disaster the cost of which will not become known until, conviently, 2014 when all the new taxes required to support it actually go into effect-not to mention the consequent disaster that will emenate from these taxes which will cause businesses to drop their current employee coverage, and thus force millions to pay highet medical insurance payments while being dropped by their employer. Finally, he will emasculate the nation's energy production forcing an end to coal usage and oil usage. This book is must reading for anyone wanting a real overview of what Mr. Obama has wrought already and what we can expect from a second Obama term.

Refreshing to hear about the actual Obama and not the biased media's "creative" persona!

Accurate portrait; this summarizes for us our suspicians after voting based on hope and change and the reality if a chicago politician. I hoped for the best 4 years ago but my eyes are wide open now thanks to this book.

While I normally get the audio version of any political reading I do, because frankly, I find it incredibly dry to READ, I got the book this time around and it was actually pretty good! It's horrific that things that are in this book that I wasn't aware of, and the things I already knew but seeing in writing was .... *sigh* I do suggest the book to anyone who doesn't just drink the koolaid and take the gov at their word.

It is easy to see that after reading the reviews of others, that this country is set on a course of divide and conquer. Scary thought. Read Atlas Shrugged.

Imagine someone being awarded the Nobel Prize for no reason other than the color of his skin and you'll have some insight into the hyperbolic Obama Myth and Administration. As Klein points out, his arrival was the personification of everything the left needed to complete the deconstruction of America into an impoverished Third World cesspool. Let's face it, after the Bush disaster any unqualified eloquent person could have become President -- and did. Read this book before you vote and we'll have a fresh start in November. Highly recommended.
