Children's Literature - Jillian KobelinThis storybook adaptation of the Amazing Spider-Man film does not follow the exact storyline of the movie, but it does tell the tale of high school student turned superhero Peter Parker. After a spider bites Peter, the teenager begins to notice his new features and abilities. There are webs growing on him, and he is faster, stronger, and more agile. Peter discovers what he has turned into, and wants to use his new powers for good. However, the authorities are out to get him. It is up to Peter/Spider-Man, to help save the city while evading the police. The story is accompanied by screen shots from the motion picture The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield. The story of Spider-Man is a complicated one to tell in a short kids' book, and it seems the author struggles to condense the story from the movie into a fluid tale for this book. Key parts of the story are missing, while some pages are filled with unnecessary scenes or information. However, young Spider fans may be willing to overlook the gaps in the story or choppy sentences in exchange for owning a book with pictures of the famous Spider-Man. Reviewer: Jillian Kobelin
