This book is a convergence of Andrew Sarris, one of the few true film historians and the French Auteur theory of film making. It is nicely organized by groups of film directors each critiqued by Sarris with a brief introduction titled 'Toward a Theory of Film History'. This book is essential for every student of film history and lover of film as entertainment. The only caveat is that it only critiques films thru 1968, but from an historical context extremely informative. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
