Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
As with other books in the "All About American Symbols" series, a brief vocabulary/picture dictionary appears at the beginning of this book, along with a table of contents and typical back matter suggesting additional books to read, websites, and an index. This book is identified as guided reading level "B" and it has a word count of 74. The flag in question, the American flag, is red, white and blue. Readers learn that it is a symbol of America and that it has 13 stripes and 50 stars. The reason for the stars is explained, but not the stripes. The remaining pages just show different places where the flag is on display. There is not a lot of information here, and the book could have presented much more. It is a marginal purchase at best.
