Overview

The new standard in fitness books, featuring hundreds of at-home stretches and exercises. At last, the first complete, fully illustrated compium of stretching and exercises for every part of the body, backed by the experience and medical and scientific authority of the American Physical Therapy Association. Each exercise in the book has been prepared and reviewed by a special editorial board, chaired by Dr. Marilyn Moffat, president emeritus of the APTA, and widely considered to be the preeminent expert in the field.

Broken down into three major sections, the book first offers illustrated descriptions of the structure and mechanics of each major body part, explaining what can go wrong and how to properly care for that area. A middle section provides general information on posture, body mechanics, weight control, aerobic conditioning, and maintenance programs. Each chapter references the main part of the book, the catalog of exercises.

    I Also Recommend:

    Body repair manual.

This is a good basic book and a good place to start if you have any kind of musculoskeletal aches and pains. The book is organized by body part (for example, the ankle, the elbow) and tells you how the area works, what can go wrong with it, and how to take care of it. The book ends with lots of exercises for each body part, which are clearly illustrated. A great first place to start if you have any nagging problems you'd like to try and get rid of, I think most readers will find it very helpful. Other books by PT's I enjoyed include The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution.

    Easy read!

I am licensed to practice physical therapy in Florida and I've owned this book for many years. It is a very easy read and has great illustrations for stretching and strengthening different muscle groups! Great for someone just starting a fitness program and also for those prone to injury. Great book!

    Easy to Use

A good book for your average person that is looking for exercises to do for specific parts of the body, like the knee or neck. The book has lots of great pictures which makes it easy to use and understand.

Can't imagine my health library without it

This is a comprehensive book on stretching every muscle group of the body with illustrated, straightforward diagrams. You don't have to be a fitness expert or exercise physiologist to understand this book. I especially liked the vast number of exercises presented for each muscle group. If for instance, one is limited by an injury there are several alternate exercises a person could do. The size and the paperback cover make it less portable than I would like. FOr instance, it is not a book one would want to carry around all day through the airport. Overall it is a thoughtful, useful, and practical volume and I would highly recommend it.

    Non-informative Physical Therapy book

This book is not very helpful to anyone who is looking for in depth information about physical therapy. The material is very basic and often repeats itself. However, it does offer some general information regarding anatomy and some disorders.
