The American Psychiatric Press Textbook of Neuropsychiatry / Edition 2by Stuart C. Yudofsky
Pub. Date: 02/01/1992
Publisher: American Psychiatric Publishing, Incorporated
Since the publication of the first edition in 1987, The American Psychiatric Press Textbook of Neuropsychiatry has become the authoritative, standard reference source in the field. Written and edited by an internationally renowned group of experts including 39 new authors, the Third Edition is now compatible with DSM-IV and has been extensively revised to provide psychiatrists, neurologists, neuropsychologists, internists, and residents with the latest developments in research, clinical practice, and diagnostic technology. With the addition of eight new chapters, increased emphasis has been placed on molecular and intracellular aspects of neuropsychiatry and the role of functional imaging in neuropsychiatric disorders. In addition, this text is lavishly illustrated with more than 180 tables and over 200 figures, including many full-color images, that will maintain this textbook's standing as the most important source for neuropsychiatry.
This is an excellent, comprehensive, and user-friendly text that succeeds in its goal of integrating neurology and psychiatry (Chicago Medicine).
Because of the detailed references and excellent tables, it is highly recommended for students and residents dealing with patients who have diseases of the nervous system (The Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease).
This invaluable, peerless book examines the explosion of knowledge in neuropsychiatry...Anyone who reads this book will be ahead of the game (JAMA).
Any clinician involved in the treatment of patients with mental illness should read or own and refer to this book. Four stars (Doody's Health Sciences Book Review Journal).
Drs. Yudofsky and Hales have put together a superb update on some of the major issues in neuropsychiatry. This is an excellent resource for faculty, students, and all others interested in the exciting field of neuropsychiatry (Herbert Pardes, M.D., Vice President for Health Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Columbia University Health Sciences Center, New York, New York).
Drs. Yudofsky and Hales have given us an outstanding text. From the molecular laboratory to the clinical office, it covers everything about the brain that has to do with our illnesses of the mind. Richly detailed without being compendious, it is also wonderfully easy to read. I'd recommend this book for everybody's shelf (Kenneth Z. Altshuler, M.D., Stanton Sharp Professor and Chairman, Department of Psychiatry, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Dallas, Texas).
What the readers of the Third Edition will find are some fresh voices with fresh points of view, along with some highly recognizable traditional leaders of the fields in which they are regarded as distinguished experts (Floyd E. Bloom, M.D., Chairman, Department of Neuropharmacology, The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California).
The breadth and depth of the coverage is thorough, which makes this an ideal volume as a primary textbook or a general reference text...This book belongs on the bookshelf of everyone with an interest in brain-behavior relationships (R.A. Bornstein, Ph.D., Professor and Vice Chairman, Department of Psychiatry, Neuropsychology Program, Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio).
Robert E. Hales, M.D., M.B.A., is Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine; Director of the Behavioral Health Center, UC Davis Health System; and Medical Director of the Sacramento County Mental Health Division and Treatment Center, Sacramento, California.
