Review of the Kent Family Chronicles by David Mallegol

The Kent Family Chronicles covers the most important historic events in American history from 1770 to 1890. It is an excellent series of eight books and defines the meaning of 'Historical Novel'. I have read all of Jakes works but, he is at his outstanding best as he details conditions in France in the 1770s, English relationships in the Americans colonies, George Washington and his army of farmers and colonists, the American Revolution, the siege of the Alamo, The California gold rush, freedom of the press, Boston and Philadelphia, the American Civil war in horrible detail, rights of women and sufferagettes who made a difference and so much more. Members of the Kent family are present and major players through all of these events with family members on different sides of the arguments such as the civil war. You will feel the triumphs and failures of the characters as they grow and mature making mistakes and sometimes overcoming them. Sometimes dying in their efforts. Some of my favorite characters are Philip Kent and Amanda Kent. Both were outstanding family leaders as was the founder, Philip Kent. However, my favorite was Will Kent, son of Gideon who suffered through an alcoholic mother and a total lack of confidence early in life. He was influenced by his father, half brother and also by Theodore Roosevelt. If another book was written after number eight, I am sure it would feature Will Kent amd his wife as the leaders of the family as would his sister Eleanor. What is missing? That is an easy answer.. John Jakes MUST put all other work aside and write four more books bringing all of us up to at least to the end of WWII. You will agree when you finish the final book entitled the Americans. If he does not write these, I would like to thank him for months of fantastic reading.. David Mallegol

    Lost and sad

I have searched and either this remaind the last of the Kent books or i am misding something. In that case i am sad that there are no further stories to follow the Kents stories further through the years that followed the eight book.

    AWESOME CHRONICLES

I READ ALL 8 OF THESE BOOKS. I TEACH HISTORY TO MY 7TH GRADE SON, AND THESE BOOKS REALLY GAVE ME ALOT OF INFORMATION THAT CANNOT BE FOUND IN HISTORY BOOKS. THEY ARE VERY ENTERTAINING. THE TRANSITION FROM BOOK TO BOOK IS SMOOTH AND UNDERSTANDABLE. THE CHARACTERS ARE REAL AND BELIEVABLE.
