"If I only had space on my overcrowded shelf for one book on anime, this would be it. If I had no space on my shelf I'd select two books at random and drop them into the bin, just to make room-- it's that indispensable."-- Paul Jacques, Anime on DVD

"While you may not agree with their opinons on a given anime, they are informative and entertaining, especially when skewering a really bad anime." -- Frames Per Second

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

This revised and expanded edition documents nearly a century of anime history. Editors Clements (former editor, Manga Maxmagazine) and McCarthy (The Anime Movie Guide) have integrated an additional 1000 entries, for a total of approximately 3000. Although the entries are alphabetized by their English titles, their Japanese titles are also noted. Entries include a list of animator and director names and briefly present the premise and plot of each work. The authors offer parental advisories and consistently make references to spin-offs and influences. The text far outweighs the imagery (150 b&w illustrations), which is somewhat disappointing, given the subject. However, this book is the most comprehensive source on the subject available and provides a substantial bibliography for further research. Recommended for film and cinema culture collections.
