Meet the Author

My name is Bryce Beattie, and I'm addicted to pulp. I got into it many years ago, and I just can't break free. When I was a kid, some careless adult left a tape with several episodes of "The Shadow" radio show lying around. After I listened to that, I was hooked. Pretty soon, audio just wasn't enough and I moved on to to the paperback stuff. At first it was just detective fiction, then I started reading old Conan stories and yarns about John Carter of Mars. Now I'm pretty hopeless. I tried to quit once, but soon afterward put on a lot of weight, so I started back up. Now, I'm so deep into pulp fiction that I write my own.

A good sword fight, but not much more than that. The set up starts out promising, but the characterization falls short halfway through, the heroine wins not through cleverness or skill but Deus Ex Machina... or a magic sword - which would be interesting if there was some follow through to the story. But there isn't, so it just comes off as a little trite. The story needs more to it, an expansion into something larger, because it feels like a pretty good introduction, not a story in its own right.

I loved that the sword came alive for justice. I enjoyed the story, however the ending was very abrupt and left you hanging. But good action. J..... :)

Needed a better finish then what was given.

This honestly reminded me of something I might have turned in for an 11th grade creative writing assignment that I put off until the night before it was due.

the story was too short and the ending left way too many questions
