Overview

When Tabor, an old prophetess, sees a dark vision of blood, she knows that Appalachia as she knows it will change. Tabor tries to help several lost friends who will die if she cannot find the help she seeks. She races against social prejudices and demonic windigo that plague Harlan and its surrounding area. She is halted, however, when she must make her adversary a friend in order to help those she loves. Navei Homes, an owner of several coal mines, holds the key to helping control and maybe even rid Harlan County of its horrible curse. Homes' prejudiced views and personal vendetta hinder Tabor and force her to play mind tricks with Homes in order to help her see the light. In her quest to save and warn the people of Harlan, she proves her abilities as a prophet, leads strangers to God, and proves that age doesn't hinder wisdom.

    Simply Amazing

This book brought me back to my roots! It invigorated me so much I bought 5 copies for friends and family. The suspense and emotion and the how you say downhomewardness is simply amazing.

    Totally worth your time

A friend gave this book to me and after reading it, I had to find it online and buy it for my friends and co- workers! The descriptions of the characters were like people I know, or knew. It kept me turning and before I knew it, I was done! It is well worth the time to set down and read! I loved it! If you like reading stories about or having to do with the south, and its lantern tale folklore, then you definitely want this book!

    Worth every penny!

I accidently ordered this book, and wasnt actually going to read it all. Now, I'm glad I did. This gook is great! The characters are written so well that they seem like people I know! Just when you thought it was going to be another one of those country hard tales that seem to just be about family life in a small town, the gossip, the dirty politics, and religious faith, the story turns completely in a different direction. It makes me think twice about going camping and it even has a humor and includes dogs! Great Book! Can't wait to read the author's next book!
