School Library Journal
Gr 4-6-This book looks at general categories of sea life that are likely to be encountered in a public aquarium. Bony fish are described, as are jellyfish, clams and oysters, horseshoe crabs, and octopuses. Some water birds and marine mammals are introduced as well as coral reefs and kelp forests. The protection of the environment is a major theme throughout. The information is not in depth and is presented in a high-spirited, pun-filled narrative. The black-and-white line drawings are representational rather than realistic. A chubby, humorous, humanoid figure appears throughout, sunbathing with a lobster, sitting in a giant clam shell, and patting a walrus. ``Veterinarians' behind-the-scenes info'' provides some straightforward descriptions of the creatures and some insight into keeping marine animals alive in captivity. Text boxes of ``Stats'' also provide factual tidbits. Some career opportunities, conservation organizations and publications, and summer programs are listed.-Frances E. Millhouser, Reston Regional Library, VA
