Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Joyce Rice
Young readers will identify this habitat as the place where penguins and polar bears live. While these two animal species do live in the arctic habitat, there are many other living and non-living things that abide there. Because they can find food, water, and shelter in the rocks near the shore, arctic foxes live here. Because the mink can eat the fish that live in the water, he can survive here. Even though the arctic weather is very cold, and winters are very long, there is a summer in this habitat. Some animals that do not live in the arctic will go to the arctic during the summer months to feed. One such animal is the grizzly bear. A single page index includes additional photographs and references to vocabulary words that have been in bold type. The series, "Introducing Habitats," includes twelve titles. This is an excellent series for science classrooms as well as media center collections. The text is simple, and the illustrations are bright and colorful. Young readers will be drawn to the book for its photographs and will be able to read most of the text without assistance.

    Great read!

This book was very simple for my students to understand and it briefly showed all parts of the habitat. What I really liked about this book is that there are several books that go along with this one. One book for each habitat and the structure of each book is the same. So it repeats the points I want my kids to learn and understand. So we were able to hear the likenesses in each habitat up to 6 times. So this reinforced the information that was pertinent to their education. This book has great pictures for the kids to soak in and enjoy. When Science time came they would get excited to see if I would grab one of these books to read. They are definitely worth purchasing for any library, classroom or home.
