Forged in 1775 by determined and angry colonists, the U.S. Army has been shaped by revolution, continental battlefields, the beaches of Normandy, and the desert sands of the Persian Gulf. This riveting volume, written by historians, military experts, and distinguished retired Army officers, focuses not only on the weapons of war but also on the men and women who have defined the spirit and essence of the U.S. Army.

Good however I wish they would have keyed in a little more on specifics. I really was hopiong to see a lot more on Audie Murphy, as well as the conflicts his unit was part of....only had like 3 sentances on the subject...
A fascinating historical book. don't miss the captions. a story within a story. the editors hit the mark on this one.
