Overview

A series of devastating solar flares hit the Earth, disrupting the magnetic field and causing a worldwide drought. Soon, governments are unable to provide for their citizens, which results in chaos.
In the wake of this disaster, a man wakes up outside White River, a small town in Arkansas. He has no memory of who he is, or where he comes from.
Barely alive, he stumbles into the town, and is found by the town Sheriff, and her sister, Linda Carter. After the town turns against the stranger, she offers him a place to stay on her small farm outside town.
On the farm, he discovers water, which enables them to grow their own food, and supply the town with water. They soon realize that they have to protect the food, water, and people against murderous raiders that now roam the lawless land.
When Linda is kidnapped by a group of raiders, the stranger shows his true colors and abilities. With the help of his new friends, he has to attempt the rescue of the woman he loves.

This book is better edited than most free ebooks are. It has a lot of characters, so once again, you might want want to make a list of who is who. The plot of this 230 page is very good. It is the first book of a series and unfortunately has a cliff hanger ending because of this. I prefer stand alone books, even if they are series books. This book needed details.( badly) It was mostly conversations about violence and survival, with limited trust between very few people. It was full of violence, fighting, blood, guts and gore. There was no sex, barely any friendship, no sexual abuse, lots of murder, a lone child, had a brief mention. (What happened to all the kids?) This book was about a desperate fight for survival and apparently only one man is capable of saving the human population from extinction. I know there had to be other humans in a city of a 1000 people with usable skills brsides one or two people. It would have been a much better read with more background of the disaster, descriptions of the area, personality development, children and more kindness, tenderness, playfullness and the other emotions which makes us human. This book depicted humans as violent killers with few caring emotions. For readers 16 and up. Both male and female. This was an interesting read it just needed more detail. AD
