Author Sandra Cuza introduces readers to the street market vendors, describing the country's finest foods and how to select the best ingredients. Dozens upon dozens of recipes, including the day's fresh findings, are paired with the history of the dish and its ingredients. Cuza gives readers a taste of everything from churrasco with seasoned brown rice to avocado ice cream, coconut pie with passion fruit cream, and fish cooked with bananas and hot pepper jelly.

In addition to recipes that are sure to enliven any table, the book also includes more than sixty mouth-watering color photographs, a glossary of terms, and sources for Brazilian food ingredients and products in the United States.

Cuza lives in São Paulo, Brazil, and is the author of a number of novels, feature films, television films, dramas, and short stories. When not writing, Cuza's passion lies with Brazilian cuisine, with which she has researched and experimented since her arrival in São Paulo. Cuza received a BA from Mills College in Oakland, California, and an MA from Pacific Oaks College. She has served as a teacher and is a member of the Authors Guild and the International Women's Writing Guild.
